Need to go and get a birthday pressie for my niece today. Has anyone got any tips on either things that are really 'in' at the moment or - probably better - just something that really grabbed a girl of around that age?
Thanks Lucy. Garden is too small for much in the way of outside toys and FAR too small for three Labs LOL. She is quite an arty little girl, so the drawing and painting thing is definitely a good idea to have a look at.
I definately agree with the arts and crafts thing. We've often bought And Anna has had bought for her mugs and thigs that they can paint and then keep. She also got an ornament to paint once. I've always liked the idea of things like that as while it is something they can paint it is also something they can keep in the long term!! Oh also bought her class mate a piggy bank to paint once as well.:-D
My next door neighbour is five - she loves those Bratz dolls (cannot see why myself) and stickers, for christmas I got her a card making set with stickers and glitter - in return I got a hand made card as a thank you. She is always top to toe in paint. I always try to be honest to think of educational things too, good luck
I'm a rebel when it comes to children's gifts. Auntie Lori never buys trendy toys. I get puzzles, building sets like Legos or blocks, arts and crafts things, great books, and games that take imagination like Rush Hour Junior. They play with those a lot longer than some of the fads.
No, I'm with you on that, I'm not a one for the Bratz/computer games type thing, so probably worded it wrongly to be honest. I always buy a book as well as a toy, and prefer 'educational'. I'm just not very good at understanding what ages children take to things, so prefer to ask parents.
My 3 daughters (not my son!!) loved drawing but they also absolutely loved dressing up. They adored all the pretty fairy outfits and princess ones that you can get along with the tiaras and wands, shoes etc.
We still have them all because they wont get rid of them and sometimes (only when hubby not around) they will dress my son up in them cos they think its funny . One day he will get his own back on his sisters ;)
