I have a 2 year old Doby beautifully tempered, easy going, never growled, I have just got in from work went to say hello to him touched his head, and if I had not moved quick enough would have bit my hand, now won,t let me anywhere near him any ideas?
My son who has been home all day with him says he has been very quiet, but no problems he has eaten all his food, but now he keeps barking and is very unsettled. I don,t know whats wrong with him!

Perhaps an ear infection and it was painful when you touched his head?
sorry this has happened and is back to his normal self soon

Get him seen by a vet tomorrow :)
If you are worried now phone the vet and get him seen now :)

We are off to the vets at 6.50, he is not himself at all
he wouldn,t let the vet touch him my husband and i had to hold him down, he has a really bad ear infection, and it must be really bad as he has never reacted like this before. we now have drops ( that is not going to be easy!) and doggy paracetamol.
I am relieved that is what it is, I was worried it was something more serious like a tumor,

Just a tip warm the ear drops slightly before putting them in his ear, it is something my first vet taught me, makes it better for the dog

Glad to hear that is as 'simple' as an ear infection. Could have been so much worse.

Ahh bless him! Hope the ear improves soon, I know from working in ENT just how it affects people to have bad ears but at least they are able to explain the problem!

Hate to say ear infections can be far from simple
Lexi had one in whelp which I thought had been treated, and only when pups went for their jabs.
I asked the Vet to check and she had an agonisingly inflamed and lacerated ear canal.
Took several sets of antibiotics flushing under GA, and £535 to get on top of it in a breed with prick ears that I have never had ear problems with before and am informed it is very rare.
what a nightmare! he is going crazy I am going to have to buy a muzzle, he wont let us anywhere near him, we put his lead on and then took him in the kitchen to limit his space, as soon as I went anywhere near his ear he was growling at us, throwing himself about. He is going to hate me when this is all over!

If it was me I would return to the vet they may be better sedating him and having a proper look down the ear it may need flushing and at least they would be able to get a good dose of antibiotics down there without distressing him .
I have just had a horrendous month with one of my cats with an ear infection which ended up wtih her whole ear swelling up with a blood clot from shaking her head she was sedated twice ..they had to cut her ear to release the clot then stitch it up in crosses all over her ear to stop it filling up and swelling all this and trying to put in drops and clean the ear everyday was a nighmare ....all over now and she is fine but has a collieflower ear !
they did tell me it is more common in dogs although I had never seen it before .

poor thing must be really sore :( 1 of my girls had an ear infection a few weeks ago the main problem turned out to be a nasty sore on just the outside of her ear but because she was in so much pain the vet couldnt get close enough to spot it, possible wasp/bee sting all settled now :D but it was so sore for her too took a lot of patience and settling to get her to let us put the ear drops in but trust me once they started to work she knew i was helping her get better and starting sitting to get them in obviously because the ear wasnt as painful too, he wont hate you :( hopefuly once the drops start to work he will be back to his old self good luck with him :D xxx

I found the same the drops obviously soothed so she stopped worrying about having them put it. Obviously it is easier to manhandle a small to medium size dog, but a muzzle and two people would be my advice so that it can be got over with quickly, then he should get less and less worried about it hurting as the treatment progresses.
Have a pot of tit bits ready and lots of calm positive attitude from you no matter how frustrating it gets.

Poor thing. Mine had a perforated ear drum and malezzia earlier this year. He had to have his ear flushed and took systemic anti-fungals until the ear drum healed enough for drops. I hope he gets better soon.
