I have a scottie who is loveable and adorable in everyway except her barking. She runs down the garden when birds are in trees and barks or she justs sits in middle of garden and barks when windy. Any positive ideas on how to stop this. I work part time and my neighbour lets her out but I want to stop this barking because I do not wish to upset the neighbours.
You have to train and reward her for NOT barking! Stand outside with her, treats at hand, use a suitable phrase, like shush girl, when she is quiet, plenty of praise and then a reward. All the best, Dawn
Hi I have a 3 1/2 yr old scottie and her pup of 4mths - Both bark when outside at waht appears to be nothing, maybe the breeze on thier faces!!! when people pass the gat it makes them worse and is quite embarrasing at times. Florence has always done it but now baby Mabel is doing the same even when she's out there on her own.
I think this is a scottie/terrier thing.
let me know if the training works

I found that calling mine in from the garden whenever they bark works a treat, as terriers they love to be out watching for cats/sniffing the breeze/sunbathing/guarding the house from maurauders etc. and on a lovely dry day the worst thing is to be made to come inside :D :D They learned very quickly that if they want to stay out they have to be quiet
I've also managed to teach the one to 'whisper' but the other has a bell in every tooth
