i feed all my dogs chicken wing so i decided to start arin on them, whe bashed them to break the bone i held one end and offered the other end to arin, she took it no problems she started to chew great but the chicken wing got slippery and it came out of my hand arin grabbed it and proceded to try and swallow it whole, i managed to get it back and started to try again but she again managed to get it off me and swallow it whole i had to open her mouth and pull it out of her throat i was so scared i gave it to one of the others.
to be honest when i feed her she alway eats as if she has never eatern before. i woul love her to be able to have the wings but dont want her damaged in the process any ideas.??

i have tried that she will just swallow them whole. the thing is as soon as she sees food she goes into manic mode its like she thinks i will take it back so she will swallow it as quick as she can??

I know some people have used pliers to grab hold of the other end - I'd be a bit reluctant to do that myself as if the dog makes a grab for the food it I imagine you'd then be faced with several broken teeth! How about just wrapping some kitchen roll round the end or using a rubber glove so that the grippy bit stops the wing slipping?

Have you tried just letting the dog have the wing and leaving him in peace! my dog tries to swallow chicken wings whole if I hover around him when he is eating them. In the dogs eyes you have been taking the food away by taking it back etc I know mine have eaten them whole on numerous ocassions and have been fine, but then they are large breed dogs.

Our GR barely crunches them before he swallows them and he has been eating them since he was 8 months old.

Dogs don't chew their food as humans would do, just break it into pieces they can swallow so I would assume your dog is just doing what comes naturally to him.

If you don't want him to eat them whole you can bash them with a hammer to break them up a bit but personally I wouldn't worry too much unless your dog is very tiny and you are worried that he is physically too small to eat them whole :)

You could always mince them, but I think the best thing to do would be to leave her eat the wings by herself, that way she won't try to snatch them, she will know they are for her!

Nothing in wrong in letting the dog eat them whole, he will either cope and nothing he will happen or he will cope by upchucking and reacuainting himself with the wings and reconsume them, perhaps this time crunching them.  Dogs do not chew...... they gnaw, the rip, they slice, they bite, etc but they do not have flat molars with which to grind.

If you cannot cope with this then do not feed them.

in the last few days she has been fine i have just put the wing in with her breakfast as she has been eating them fine, i think it was just my pressence that was making her eat them like this
