Hello,
I am just wanting to check if my entry is OK for SKC . I have entered my puppy into Novice as a 2nd class but I am unsure if he is eligible. Novice is for dogs which have not won 3 or more 1st prizes (excluding puppy classes). There is a note saying "In estimating the number of awards won, all wins up to and including 19th March will be counted when entering for any class".
Well he has won one 1st outside puppy classes before 19th March 2007 but has won five 1st's outside puppy classes since. Is he still eligible for novice class????

If the closing date was the 19th and he didn't win them before that date then yes he is still eligible for novice. You couldn't have known that he would have won the classes could you :) If in doubt check with the SKC secretary before you go into any class, that way you can move him with permission. I had to do it with my bitch at a show when I had entered her as a dog  The form was filled in before judging started, so she was allowed to go into the bitch class :D

GG did you check with the SKC - in the same position for Bath with Angus!  And just want to be sure of the answer!

Whilst prior to entries closing we were eligible we are now not!!!

Someone else said it was on the first day of the show like with age classes but it doesn't say that on the class definitions!

Thanks,

Rachel

It counts 7 days before the closing date doesn't it?

Because you can't know if your dog will qualify out of a class between entries closing and the date of the show.

Age is taken from the first day of the show, maybe thats what your thinking of?

I just want to clarify Rox - I thought I would be ok then someone said that it was like the age classes!  But can't see the rule written anywhere!

If it is 7 days before then definitely ok!  As you said how can you know what your dog will do after the entry - basically you wouldn't ever enter 'just in case'!  would you!

thanks Rox

If a week prior to entries closing your dog was eligible for a class (not age class of course) then it is still eligible, which is why you can have the position in theory of a newly crowned champion in Post Graduate.

I suppose in theroy you coudl even have a dog that gets made up in three shows on the trot during the summer to be shown out of Novice, as entries tend to close 6 to 8 weeks before the big shows..

That's great - thanks for that!  We are ok then!! Was thinking how would I know if he was going to win out of it!!!  And I never send my entries in early - usually right up to the wire!

If you want to see it in black and white, find a schedule and look in definition of classes :)  It is there within first half of page. :)

Got to run, exam to go to!!!!!!!!!

No problem.  I was going to give you paragraph etc but I had a knock on my door reminding me of the time and we had to get to an exam!
