Hi all,

We've got a fun dog show coming up on Sunday at a local park, with classes such as Dog with the waggiest tail, best pedigree etc...is it likely to be competetive? I think I might like to take Roxy along , but since she's at the end (3 weeks and 4 days) of her season is it likely to distract other dogs? She's had bit of a bath and would do it again to remove any smells ahead of the day itself, but I don't want to upset anyone....

Hi there - fun shows are generally just that FUN - there are some that do take it a bit seriously but on the whole its people having a good day out with their four legged pals!

Ah - just read about the season - it might distract the male dogs - but if she is at the end might be ok - one of mine is ok with bitches that smell 'interesting' but another of mine even the slightest smell and he just won't give up - so you might upset a few!  Sorry don't know the best answer on this one for you!

Hope you can go - they are great fun!

After 21 days and a good bath males don't seem to be intrested in our girls at shows etc.

If your that worried you could get a "bitch spray" from a pet store and this will disguse any smell :)

It's unlikely to be competitive :)  Well maybe a couple of people will be but the high mjority will be there for a fun day out :)

From the perspective of someone who has an entire male who knows exactly what his equipment is intended for, I can only say that he is better at detecting seasons (be that bitches who are about to come into one, or who are at the last knockings stage) than any test yet invented! But as others have said, its a fun show, and not intended to be overly competitive. So just  be aware that you might want to put some distance between your bitch and any dog who has forgotten the point of the whole outing since the only message he's receiving loud and clear is "Laydees Bottoms!"

But how long should a bitch be kept away from a show so not to gain too much attention from males?

Sorry, but I tend to think the opposite way. I don't think a bitch in season should be taken into a crowd of dogs. If it's just a fun show it doesn't matter if you miss it, it'll not be a lot of fun for the poor people whos dogs are upset and dragging them everywhere to pee and slobber over the ground :D However if she is completely finished, and you give her a bath beforehand then of course she could go, she's not in season anymore.

But basically she is not in season when she has gone over 3 weeks. By rights unless you believe that she is still in season then you should be able to go. Enjoy.

Thanks all, by the time Sunday comes around she'll be over 4 weeks - but her last season seemed to be that long, but I've noticed this season is shorter than her first - we've seen no signs of this one for about 7 or 8 days.... Do they vary that much?

She might need time to settle her seasons down abit :)  Lets face it, us girlies wern't all perfect timing and lengh at the start!

As long as a bitch isn't dripping, is past 3 weeks and their parts are no longer swollen then I consider them fine to be out at a show.

Also as we have two males at home they are a good test for bitches coming in and out.

If she's on 4 weeks and you bath her and can't see any further signs, I wouldn't worry - my dog is one of those who gets distracted, but it's not the bitch owner's fault if the bitch has definitely finished and my idiot is still an idiot! :-)
