just wondered what they are really like as house dogs?  Are they good with bigger dogs etc...

The first thing that comes to mind when i think of poodles is "yap yap yap"! I've only known a few,but they have all been barkers...

>Are they good with bigger dogs etc...

I think any breed can be good with bigger dogs,i dont think poodles differ in any way than any other small breed when it comes to socialisation with bigger dogs and training.

A friend keeps toy poodles with her dalmatians, and they get on brilliantly. They're great fun - very entertaining!

I've got a friend with miniature poodles, they are very intelligent and full of character, one of them does bark if she leaves him in another room while doing something else, but that's nothing most dogs wouldn't do, my Cavaliers certainly whinge if they can't get to me! I imagine Toys would be bright and clever too! :-)

Hi Nic

We've had toy poodles for most of my life and they are wonderful family dogs.  Maybe we've been very lucky, but none of ours have been yappy.  They bark if someone comes to the door, but that's about it.  If socialised early, they're good with other dogs, you just have to watch the size issue initially, but you will find that the bigger dogs will get used to being gentler with them if you tell them often enough.  They are very loving little dogs with big personalities and they will very quickly steal your heart if you let them.

HTH

Simone :)

There is a splendid toy poodle that comes to the local park. Her owner is too old to throw a ball so she loves it when she can play fetch with me. She happily runs around to play chasey with my large golden too. She's a proper dog even if she's only little.

Everything said is true. Plenty of Poodles in my female run family, they were all loved and adored. The Poodles that is.

Toy Poodles are very intelligent little dogs.  My BCs absolutely adore our friend's toy Poodle that stays with us quite often.  She's getting a bit long in the tooth now (16yrs) but our friend say that she's been a marvelous doggie companion.

We had a white toy, he was stud dog no longer wanted by the breeder so we took him on at 4  he was loving family pet for 13 yrs, very clever, could have been in the cirus the tricks he could preform  he was gentle around children, a very good guard dog too, we had a break in the little soul frightened the life out of the person trying to get in ! only problem was humping peoples arms but then it was his living for many years he didn't know different the poor thing  good luck.
