Hi,
My Dad has recentley been diagnosed with Prostate cancer and I'm really struggling to keep strong. I cry every day but do manage to be brave and supportive when around my dad. He had a bone scan last week and goes in for an ultrasound scan and biopsy on 8th May. My dad is very strong willed and stubborn and insists on going to all appointments alone - (was alone when diagnosed  :-(  )  but I don't want him to be alone when he goes for results of these tests / gets prognosis. I want to be with him as I don't think my mum is strong enough but I'm frightened of breaking down if the news isn't good. I am really worried and life without my Dad doesn't bare thinking about. Has anyone been through a similar experience and how did you cope?

Thanks

Been there. :( It's horribly hard but if your dad's like mine he needs to feel he can manage - that he's being A Man. However we 'mere women'  know that we must be there ready to catch the fallout. The male ego is fragile and needs to be supported but without them consciously knowing.

It's the normal scheme of things that children lose their parents. It hurst like hell, but it's life. The older generation moves on and the younger takes their place.

PM me if you need to.

Hayley

I am so sorry to hear this news and can understand how upset you must be feeling :(

I think you just have to make sure you dad knows you will be there for him and also for your mum.

It is very difficult thinking about life without our parents :(

Don't be afraid to cry as it is best to let your emotions out. I remember when my Dad went into hospital and was told by my mum not to show how upset I was. It was very hard and boy how I wish I has shown him how much I was hurting for him and never got the chance to tell him :(

Take care and Pm me if you need to talk :)

My dad is just going through it now.

Please dont think the worst,I know I did when we were told,I couldnt see him when he came home (I only live 6 doors away from them)with the news as I knew I would breakdown in front of him and I wanted to be strong for him,we all worried ourselves sick over it.
My dad had the biopsy and found it in 3 places,he then had the radiotherapy which were small rods implanted which were then "hit" with the radiotherapy
it made him a little tired but still able to do every day things,we called his cancer humpty simply because it WILL fall apart and WONT be put back together again (daft I know but it felt easier asking about humpty instead of asking how the cancer was).
Dad had a few months of the radiotherapy and then took a rest and went for some results a few weeks ago and humpty isnt as big as he was anymore so were winning in battle.

The daft sod my dad is then went on to have to need stents fitted in his heart valves and he is now fitter then us all lol.

I read anything and everything I could on cancer and we read that pomegrantes and tomotoes were excellent antioxidents so dad had those whether they helped I dont know
but it made us feel better helping too.

You dad has had tests now so you know what your fighting,it can be beaten, give the cancer a name and blast the sod out of your dad.

My aunt is running the cancer for life this year and she is running for humpty lol.

Give you dad a hug from me and heres one for you {{{{{{{HUG}}}}}}} and if you ever want to chat, sharing the ups and downs you pm me or email anytime.

Fantastic news :)
My nan was diagnosed with lung/brain cancer in 2005 and told she didnt have long left and treatment wasnt worth trying but she argued for it and shes still here going strong today, its unbelievable! Treatment nowadays is amazing, I hope all goes well for your dad x
