Help wanted from anyone else who knows.
I want more help on GCDS, The resposiblity and care bit.
I am really not sure if i will get to do this test as i have loads of work and not had time to revise questions. (maybe taken test on 12 May
I want to know how the examiner phrases the questions for you to bring out the correct answer?

How does the examiner asks you the questions ie, what do you do if your dog is bleeding, answer - there is a loss of blood and you should imediatly seek veterinary advice. Is this one way the examiner asks a question.

Help appreciated.

Ohhh it's dead simple believe me!!! You won't fail!

The thing is that I have no experience in this. I haven't trained for it nor have i been to a GCDS class

Can you give examples on what the examiner can ask you and how he asks the questions to you?

Does the examiner just expect you to answer the answers which are on the sheet or add more detail to the answer?
Does he/she ask for an answer that is not included in the sheet?

Does the examiner ask 2 questions from Dogs needs, Illness, and Responisibility? Can you include some of the questions that the examiners asked you when you took the test?

Lots of questions but need help

Hi Ya, if you go on the kennel club website and look at the GCDS bronze section that might help you through it gives you a step by step guide to what is needed to pass the test ie correction identification etc, I think this will reassure you that the questions are not that hard.

I have had my first lesson tonight for the bronze level, test on the 24th May. I was advised by the trainer that the questions are simple and are common sense and the answer is almost in the question.

Good Luck:cool:

We did our GC bronze test a couple of weeks ago and the questions are all everyday common sense ones which every responsible dog owner will know the answer to - and even non-dog owners would know the answers to them I reckon if they applied a bit of common sense.

The questions cover three areas: a dog's needs, when to seek immediate veterinary advice and the responsibilities of ownership. I am sure you will know all the answers but you only have to give three out of six correct answers to pass that section of the test.

The sort of questions we were asked were : in what circumstances would you seek immediate veterinary advice? What are your responsibilities when walking your dog in the countryside? As well as food and water what other needs does your dog have etc.

The other thing you must make sure you do is to have an identification tag on your dog with your name, address, telephone number etc (as required by law anyway), a means of clearing up after your dog ( which any responsible owner would have on them anyway) and a grooming brush so that you can demonstrate that your are able to keep your dog clean and healthy without a struggle.

Good Luck :)

It's dead simple! I've done the Bronze test with 15 different dogs and the questions are invariably just a couple of really basic ones like "Name two things your dog needs" and "How would you know if your dog was ill?" and "How often do you worm your dog"? and "It's a hot day and you've got your dog in the car, what do you do if you need to leave him for a few minutes?" :)

Go for it.  I did mine on a whim at a dog show and passed!  I was conviced that Archie would make a run for it in the recall bit and had people ready to caught him, but he trotted over to me quite the thing.

If I can do it with a Gordon Setter then you can!!

Mind you, that's almost a trick question Goldmali, I got asked the 'dog in car on hot day' question once! I was trying to think how on earth I would make it safe, and started by saying 'well, I wouldn't leave my dog on a hot day, but...' and they stopped me to say that was the right answer!
- By Goldmali Date 05.05.07 23:25 UTC
Yes almost the same happened to me once Lucy!

Ok, I am getting the hang of maybe taking the test.
Can all of you tell me what was expected of them throughout the test and all the questions and answers they were asked whilst taking the Bronze Test?
PM me if you wish.

Thanks

This is what is expected of you to pass as set out by the kennel club  Hope it helps, bronze is very simple and all common sense really.

Thanks for all who responded. I am not sure, might give it a go. If i fail well it is better than not entering at all.

Not really had a chance to look over questions and never will until the day of the show as i have a lot of work.

any more info/question i need to know?

:) Stay calm,
Relax.
You'll do it  :)

Definitely relax and treat the exam like a training session. Nerves get people most of the time. Most importantly have fun, enjoy your dog and if a mistake is made laugh it off and carry on.

I have a friend with a loopy red and white setter 17 months old always has ants in phants everyones and everydogs friend, they went to companionship show on sat and put him in and he passed. Like everyone else says just relax and enjoy the experience.

It is probably no more than you are doing already with your dog so am sure you will be fine. And if he has an off day you will at least know what to expect next time. :)
- By ice_queen Date 10.05.07 12:50 UTC
Ahhh but Wizaid, red and whites are highly intelligent!!!!  ROFLMAO...who am I kidding???

Although all mine I think have been put though and past.  I put your youngest though it last summer at a companion show and she did so well...

One of them did a poo whilst on the healwork though distractions....Could prove I had a poo bag AND could clean up. :D

I've only ever failed one dog and that was because there was no way I was making a 7 st boxer lay down for the stay and teh examiner wouldn't accept a sit or down stay...

So many examiners don't actually know what they're doing. It USED to be down stay only, now it is down, sit or stand, your choice, and has been for a few years.
- By Tenaj [gb] Date 10.05.07 12:43 UTC
Oh you will be fine..it is fun... not like a driving test!

The hardest to anawer question we were asked at one level was: 'what do you do with a baby?'

we just all fell about laughing and told the examiner it was supposed to be a test about dogs!

It is fun. Some do the test on paper and you just scribble down the answeres..like a pup quiz.  Some ask you as a group some go round you all asking one queston each, some ask you to answer each question.

Did anyone see the Bronze ring at Birmingham National today? I couldn't believe my eyes. It was perhaps 2 metre square IF THAT. How on EARTH can they do a proper recall and walking on a lead in an area that size? A Great Dane would take 2 steps and be at the end!
- By Tenaj [gb] Date 11.05.07 07:11 UTC
Shame..they devalue the test and the work people put into it. There should be set set requirements that the test should be taken under. I love the good citz, loved the training  ... it should be teated to a high standard and there should be higher levels to work towards after the Gold to encourage people to carry on with 'thinking' activities with ther dogs if they want to.
