HI, just wondering.. how much do people pay for their annual booster for their dog?  Mine has been between £22 and £25 for the last couple of years but yesterday i went in and it cost me £34... has the price gone up everywhere or are my vets being greedy?.. cheers..

The last one I had done in the uk was September of last year and it cost £26.

Here in Liverpool I think they're around £27, but not sure as I pay into a VIP scheme every month, which covers, Vaccination, flea and worm treatments, with 20% of everything else. I went last week with the new puppy and got some free stuff and even a bag of Royal Canin!!!

A dentist charges £15.90 just for a basic examination and that is subsidised :) Our vet does an annual health check and gives the booster so I don't think that a charge of £25-£30 is unreasonable :) My solicitor charges £150 per hour, so 10 minutes would be £25 :) :)

You obviously don't have the same vet I do then.  I'm in N.I too and I pay WAY more than £12.  Can't remember exactly what it is but I'll find out on Monday as one of mine is due for their booster.

i have a small breed maybe it varies in size ..from small to large breed that could effect the cost ?
tho am not totally sure as the vet is a good friend of mine , and i am doing her grooms wedding suits at a very good price, she repaid the favour last month when i took, 3 adult dogs (small breed) for their yearly booster and five puppies for their first injection, and she charged me £75. ..

Misty had her annual booster/checkup last Monday and that cost £32.00.  The other £50 was worming/flea treatment and kennel cough vac. :rolleyes:

Don't you buy your worming and flea stuff on line?? I used to get all mine form one the canine drug suppliers??!!! Much much cheaper, the only reason I stopped was the VIP scheme now...maybe worth considering?? If you need a link, PM me, all the best, Dawn X

Ours cost £34 - we live in the South and area seems to make a difference :)

My low cost vaccination clinic charges £27, other vets more than that.

£12 for the vet we only use for vacc. Usual vet a lot more.That's in West Yorks.

We have a surgery near s that charges about £18 and that's with full check-up and they are great with the dogs.  My mum had her pups vaccinated there for just over £20!

Sadly £34 in the North East.

I live in the NorthEast and mine charges £37 but when i had Rolos booster last year I paid an extra £60 to get him covered for life.

I'm interested in this, do you still go for annual boosters and just don't pay for them anymore or is there a booster that will immunise them for life ? 

And don't forget that the only booster needed annually is for Lepto, it's every 3 years at least for Parvo and Distemper - according to manufacturers guidelines!

Same here, I have a cheap vet I use for vaccines ( £12) and worming, flea treatments etc. I use my big practice for everything else.  MY big practice is £35. 

I asked a vet why the boosters were £18 at there practice and £30 at another practice within a couple of miles radius-they replied "you you will have to ask the vet why his charges are that price ",good point.  Also at this vets to have a bitch spade it is £54.  This is the Manchester area.

I had one of mine done last week and it cost £31. I'm in Scarborough in North Yorkshire.

My vets do a one off payment of £90 plus your dog/pup has to be microchipped, they will then vaccinate the said dog for its life. I have to pay for my oldie who at 11 is too old to go in the vaccination club, he costs £26 a year

Mine is about £12-£15 not sure exactly microchipping is £25 Im in the Midlands.

Mine charges £31.00 so not too far behind you, the prices have shot up horrendously, I guess because they know you have to do it. (Or should)

I was sat next to an elderly lady with a Yorkie in the vets recently, she was telling me how she would love another, but the vet bills were too expensive, I immediately thought well that is what insurance is for, but then remembered inoculations, microchipping, health check charges etc so even for an elderly person I guess that all adds up a lot for two. :-( Especially if all vets follow suit and insist on 6 monthly checks and not yearly anymore to get your frontline etc under that pets name, which is what mine has started to do.

Sam was done a couple of days ago it cost £29.95, he's 33k I'm not sure if weight comes into it. My vet also gives a check up as well in that price and free nail clipping if necessary.

Thanks all, after asking about i have been told its only £25 at a vets 10 miles away and from what they say its a better vet!  My vets recently been taken over by new people, probably explains the price rise

Boosters are the same price no matter what size of dog, but does vary depending on what vaccination it is. At my practice it varies between £30 and £35 in the south. However don't forget that the vets choose what mark up to put on things, so my practice chooses to put the mark up on vaccinations and keep drugs prices low whereas one down the road has cheap vaccinations and puts the extra mark up on drugs and ops. Its all relative, the mark up will be added on somewhere they do have to make some sort of profit at the end of the day.

For the difference of £8 or £10 once a year I would go with the vet that I trust the most and is most accessible in emergencies.

Good point, Isabel - as mine usually only go to the vet once a year for their booster and annual health check, it is the only time that some things may be picked up :) :)

Yup - usually about £35 - I'm in Edinburgh and I expect it to be dear but I think I've always paid about that much.  When I had the cat they have to have 2 boosters and I think that was about £60

Fablab this is a one off payment and i get Rolos Jabs done every year for the rest of his life as long as i dont lapse with them and get them done on time.
