Cannot understand why you pay £10 - £22 entry fee only to get a piece of card for your win. Where as at an open show for entries from £3.00 - £5.00 you often get lovely rosettes. Does not seem fair. It cost me £11.00 to buy rosettes at WELKS yesterday for our wins. I know that was my choice but just prefer a nice rosette instead a bit of cheap card.

I got loads you can have!!! :D They are cheap too...:P
i agree, all that money for a bit of card that i put in the bin, i also buy rosettes but they are not cheap. and as you say go to a open show get a rosette, better still go to a companion show and get massive rosettes and dog food as well for a £1 a class. way to go!!!!

But at companion shows everything is sponsored :)
For example last year in our family we ran two dog shows. Both had rosettes sponsored by our local ringcraft (well one show was held under our ringcrafts name for the village we hhold it in!) and the dog food for one was sponsored by a local Pets at home, the other I think eukanuba but can't remember. So those two big costs wern't coming out of your entry fee.
Also at open shows many people will give rosette donations to their breed :) That helps with costs alot! :)

Erm...but do Pedigree Chum not tend to provide the prize cards at championship shows?
I agree, I cannot understand why championship shows only have meagre rosettes or no rosettes. Mia's CC rosettes have been lacklustre. Her open show RBIS rosettes have been far superior.
Compare championship dog shows to championship cat shows where you get lovely rosettes for firsts, even better for BOB's and beautiful ones for best of Variety - ok cats shows are a bit pricier but for £30 you get entry for 4 classes, you are vetted in by a vet and all cats are penned plus the judges & stewards disinfect their hands prior to handling each exhibit. So if cat shows can provide this with far fewer entries - why not dog shows?

I keep all my cards, and all the rosettes too.
My kids have banned me from hanging the rosettes up anymore as they think it looks tacky as I used to have them on strings like you do with Christmas Cards.
I stopped buying rosettes at Champ shows once my older champion started getting firsts on a regular basis, previously I confined myself to buying them for the odd first place I managed to get.
Now I must admit I like the card as I usually past the critique on the back. I file each years cars in a Polly pocket fronted with a sheet of paper showing the shows ans placings.

Champshows have a much higher cost to cover then an open show, hence the extra cost. And they don't make a huge profit on the shows.
At open shows alot are struggling to keep supplying rosettes with many only giving first!
It's just always been the norm to me and I don't see the problem with it tbh......
When I was new to showing, I loved getting rosettes, (same with trophies), now I can't be bothered with them. I inevitably leave rosettes in bags and forget about them, and I hate responsibility of club trophies. It's sad really, because some of the earlier rosettes I still have, have lovely memories of my dogs who have now gone over the bridge. I can't even remember when my attituse changed towards rosettes.
Kay

Think thats the same for me Kay TBH but as I started showing when I was 5 I have many rosettes from when I loved getting them because I was a young girl. Now their just something to clutter the house. At open shows we donate back the class rosettes and just keep the specials. :) With trophies we only take those we can engrave our dogs names onto. Infat we got BOB afew weeks ago and got a trophey, BOB went to our youngster and getting the trouphy we have 3 of our dogs names on it along with others going back to the 1980's.
after being in the ring for 14 years a card is alot easier to store :)

I prefer cards, I put them in a photo album with his critiques - rosettes just get chucked in a box.

I prefer rosettes, the cards just get thrown in the bin as soon as I get home, unless it's for a big win.

I am similar. the year my Jozi won a lot I took all the trophies and had about 30 (our breed club has a lot of trophies) and I found it a real problem getting them all back to the shows. I now refuse all trophies.
I also am less good with the rosettes, and often leave them crumpled in my show bag from one show to next forgetting to put what they were won for and by whom, which I used to religiously put on the back of them.

I must admit being quite new to showing i love all the stuff still, rosettes, cards & trophys :)
At our last show our pup and our dog did quite well so we came home with a few bits & pieces. Saying that the cards & rosettes go in folders and get put away but i put the trophy's on the bookcase. Even in a champ show if any of my lot win i do buy the rosettes so i've got a record of all they do, LOL

I buy them from 3rd upwards at champ shows :)
I like showing them off :)
and I keep all the cards, critiques etc

Me too Paula - I hope that I always feel they are special too - if we get a nice win at a champ show then I will buy the rosette - to me its like my kids report cards from school - I wouldn't bin those!
Rosettes currently on display for this year on pinboard - cards/critiques put in scrapbook, again by year.
And having only had 4 trophies to date I did get them for displaying and so they were very manageable - one day maybe it will be that we can't cope :)
And regarding not having them at champ shows - I have just accepted you don't get them at champ shows - yes it would be nice but we have never got them and so that's the way it is.

Well we had a shield that was won last year and had to go back at this years club show. I got all the rosettes and the shield displayed them looking ever so nice and took loads of photos of them, thinking well i suppose that will be the first and last shield we ever win.
Our boy only won it again this year as well so all my design (used loosely :) ) skills weren't really needed :D
I must admit if my house was on fire apart from the dogs & hubby the show cards/rosettes etc are what i would save :)
I'm new to all this but I treasure every one of my rosettes, whether from companion or open shows. I've only done one champ show and the VHC won there will be joining the other best rosettes and a couple of other bits and pieces in a display case once I've got it all organised. It always saddens me to see people squash beautiful rosettes up in their pockets or whatever while any I win get put safely in my grooming kit so they can't get dirty. Even the cards I laminate and display. As for trophies, well I can but dream I suppose.

I agree - I've been showing 5 1/2 years now and my Cavs have won a fair amount, but I still treasure every rosette and prize card, and always take the trophy and display it if I win one. I must admit I do now have to return the the lower place rosettes as I haven't got enough room, but I do it nicely and I do keep the prize card safely in the folders. :-)

I still keep every rosette and card, I am just a it lazier with completing the details.

Ive had dogs since 1984 I still like to receive rosettes though dont hang them up now except the lovely ones like Nells Best lab Puppy LKA thats beautiful, the breed club rosettes are usually very nice.
I keep all the cards for the year and mark the classes and judge on and have framed the breeder diplomas. (show champions)
When we hold our rescue fun day I love having beautiful rosettes for people to win and know they love receiving them.

Barbara and the Grey Curly Tails. I must admit i usually put the cards in a box and then eventually fill them in in one fell swoop :-)
At one show our pup won BPIB and we were told that the rosette had been lost but they would post one on to us. Before the end of the day though a steward found us and presented us with the rosette, so i was on cloud 29 :D

I still feel sad for one First place rosette I left on the judge's table while competing for BOB and forgot to pick up. I even sent them a SAE in the hope they would send me one, but no! :-(
