I've replied to an advert on my local freecycle site about some settees but have had no reply , or if I have done I don't know where to look to get it

Do i have to leave my contact details on the reply message or are they included on there automatically? I'm really stuck - can anyone help?

Thanks , Kate

I've not used it for a while but when I did your reply would go directly to the person offering the settees and you should be able to see what you sent in your sent emails. I don't know much about yahoo email if you used that instead.

You do need to leave your contact details, email address (which should show up when you email) and maybe phone number, although I never gave that until the person had emailed me back and told me I could have the item.

Just looked at how it works on my local group, if I look on the yahoo group and try to reply it sends an email from there. If you didn't type any message at all the person who received it might have thought it was sent by mistake?

You just click on the reply botton on your browser; the subject then says 're: the nice brown sofa' or whatever.   Then you ask for you item, and it's always nice if you put a 'please' in somewhere- I give people priority when they say that.

If you're lucky, the person who's offering it will reply to you in your normal in-box.    Sometimes people are overdone with replies for a popular item, so they just post a 'Taken' post on the group, something like 'Taken - nice brown sofa, thanks for all the replies, too many to answer individually'

Freecycle is the best thing out - it brings communities together for recycling, for the best reasons.   Yes, occasionally you will get a bad penny who is out to make a profit on 'something for nothing', but all the freecyclers I've met have been great people.

Freecycle is brilliant - I've got 2 x 3 seater leather settees (Nothing wrong with them except the decor was being changed!), a hooded cat litter tray, cat radiator bed (Never used) & fax machine. As well as giving away a pile of stuff sitting in my shed!

Freecycle CAN be brilliant but some people do simply take the P.

I've recently advertised a large jute mat and a lady replied asking for it.  I offered it to her and arranged a collection time.  She didn't show and I emailed to ask if she no longer wanted it and she replied that she couldn't collect as she didn't want her children in the car with it if it might be dirty!!!  I explained it wasn't.  She then asked if her husband could collect on the way to work at 7am.

Now as those of us who have dogs and work know, mornings can be a bit hectic with dog walking, packed lunches, children to get off to school, etc and I need all my energies to concentrate on those so I said that it wuldn't be at all convenient and I didn't have anywhere to leave said mat outside (its 2m sq).  She emailed me back to say that she thought I could be a little more considerate and that it was hardly an inconvenience to open the door and pass it out!!!

I felt like suggesting where to put the rug but instead declined her request and gave it to someone else.  How can people be so rude as to arrange a time and then not turn up??!!  I wish there was a name and shame part to the site.

I love freecycle and have homed and got some interesting stuff on it. Always amazed at the stuff people give away. I think we have to much money.

Some people do abuse it though and you have to watch. I have been lucky with people collecting stuff. A couple of times if we couldnt arrange a time I have said I will leave the item on the front doorstep for them.

I wouldnt let someone come at 7 in the morning either. My mornings are bad enough and I dont walk the dogs then or make pack lunches but you are always on the look out for them. Dont want to nip to the loo or clean your teeth just incase they turn up. A couple of times my hubby has arranged to collect stuff and the people havnt been in. That is really annoying. I get fed up when you have replied to a post saying you would like the item and they dont bother to tell you that it has gone. I make sure I do respond to everyone and say sorry its away either awaiting collection or has gone.

I have seen several laptops find a new home on freecycle - but what I like most about it are the obscure items people want and always seem to find :) - Door handle wanted for a 1976 Baby Belling cooker - now who would have thought that anyone would have one of those to hand but they were given 2 from different sources
