Just enquiring.....

Just got back from vets for Misty's annual checkup and thought I would get some flea treatment etc while I was there.  We were given Milbemax for worming, which we have used before but apparently the vets are no longer doing frontline.  Instead it is called advocate?  According to the box it also covers worming - so why were we given Milbermax as well?  Didn't really question it at the vets (nearly fainted though due to the price?!!!!)

I would certainly go back and question it. two different drugs, two doses of wormers? At the same time.....I wouldn't do it, and they have, as you quite rightly said, charged you for two things when one whould have done. Dispute it and get your money back.

Calmstorm, neither of those products would be effective against fleas, roundworms and tapeworms.

"Advocate controls the major gastrointestinal nematodes of dogs but does not control tapeworms. In order to control tapeworms use Drontal or Droncit as appropriate"

Surely not at the same time though but in between?  As both cover some of the same Worms so in effect the dog would be overdosed?

I am not a fan of giving more than one drug at the same time where it is avoidable but would assume that the vet has given the OP appropriate advice on the actual adminstration.

Overdose = a dose, which is considerably higher than the effective one, and very near to the toxic one.  Two preparations containing the same drug could constitute an overdose but that is not the situation here.

I'd just say that the roundworms have got it coming! :-D

apart from the fact that frontline and drontal  is soooo much cheaper from hyperdrug or vet medic and you dont need a prescription plus they dont charge postage.

I use advocate,and always give a tapewormer(drontal at 3 mthly intervals) at the same time.

Drontal is not a tape wrom treatment but a broad spectrum wormer.
