Not sure if this is the righ forum but it is to do with showing so thought I would post here

My 6 and a half month pup has a very tight scissor bite, is this likely to stay this way now or could it still change
At the moment we could get away with it, but any change and it could end up level  All puppy teeth out and all new ones through.  Not sure if it makes a difference but its a toy breed

Well generally the under jaw grows for longer than the upper and in a very tight bite might eventually lead to level or undershot, but in  a toy breed maybe the head and jaws have stopped growing at 6 months.  I would consult people in your breed who have long experience with puppy development.

At 7 1/2 months old, a dog I bred's bite went nearly level. (Golden Retriever) Approx 1 month later it became a perfect scissor bite (not even tight). I believe teeth are a very funny thing as I have heard that the lower jaw continues to grow for longer but obviously that is not always the case.

I have an American Cocker bitch that had a tight scissor bite at 6 months. The breed is notorious for going undershot. Her bite floated about until she was 2 1/2 years old. Some days she was level some days she was a smidge under and other days she was scissor. It finally settled at tight scissor again by the time she was 2 1/2.

A lot depends on what breed you are talking about they all grow differently. I am assuming your breed standard calls for a scissor bite from your question, some allow level. The breeder is the best person to ask for advice - in some breeds I would be worried in others unconcerned.

Thanks for your replies
Bazb I can't ask the breeder as that's me, but my mentor thinks it will stay right, just wanted some other opinions

depends very much on your breed and also the individual lines, which, as the breeder i would have thought you would knowthem rather well!

Yes Sam I do know my lines very well having done a lot of research, but I didn't ask or research the chances of a very tight scissor bite going wrong

I was more interested in any potential health problems
