We have just been out for a lovely walk and stopped at a cafe along the canal path. We sat having a coffee with the dogs sitting by us. A lady behind us had a dog on an extending lead that she kept lengthening to allow her dog to approach ours. Each time she did it one of our dogs began to bark which then set the other two off. We turned our dogs away so they couldn't see anything and they settled down. She seemed to find it all amusing. When she had finished talking she moved and sat on the table next to us and again let her dog come towards ours, setting them off again. I picked up one of ours and he settled sitting on my lap. The lady then got up to leave and brought her dog over to say "hello" then she stopped and bent down to talk to our dogs who were going crazy by this time. She seemed oblivious to the chaos and I was very embarrased at the commotion. If she had not approached our dogs none of it would have happened. I was so angry that I was unable to even speak to her. It spoilt what had been a lovely walk on a beautiful day. Sorry, needed to rant.

I get this all the time.  Some people think its very amusing to follow you with their dog wherever you go on a walk, even although its quite obvious my dog hates theirs and does not want it anywhere near him.  Can't say I find it that funny but some people just won't take the hint even when you ask them to please take their dog away.  That would spoil their fun

Some people just love dogs so much they don't notice them barking. Many people are rude about dogs who bark and people with dogs who bark can become anxious that people grumble and complain she might have wanted to put you at ease by showing you she loves your dogs. Some people having a dog is all about meeting other dogs and meeting other dog owners. !

Or she might not like your dogs at all! She might have wanted to humiliate you and show you what a good dog behaves like! People do that if your dog barks and theirs is quiet they will sit by you so people will see they have a 'good ' dog and you have a 'bad' dog. They just have this weird competition thing going on in their heads.

It sounds though that she loved your dogs and didn't see their behaviour as problematic. She sounds more like the  "Eh?..what commotion?" type. 

We dog owners are a funny mix! It's lways good to be able to rant a little!
