Can you keep 2 bitches together? Mine is 14 mths old, spayed and behaving herself around other dogs. The Bassett Hound is not yet spayed and 18 mths old, also good around other dogs. I don't seem to have much luck with dogs and someone told me that bitches fight to the end so getting another bitch the same sort of age was unadvisable. obviously this all depends, if they get on in the first place.

I have 4 bitches living together and never had so much as a lifted lip. Unfortunately it is true about bitches and it isn't always breed specific so regrettably it would be 'suck it and see'. I am afraid that no-one will be able to give you a definite answer on this one.

I have three that all live happily together there is a definite pack order and they all know their place in it - all very tolerant of each other now ( aged 12 , 8, and 4 ) the two oldest even wash each others ears each evening :) but I don't know how they'll take to a 10 month old bitch coming into the pack in June ( that's when my import finally comes home !)

I've had as many as four bitches (of differing ages) living together in perfect harmony. But I know at least one person who had to rehome a bitch because she fought with the other household bitch.
I have had up to 5 bitches without a murmur, but also 2 bitches that, if left together, would fight. I had to rehome one of them. It will depend on how well they get on. The 2 that fought would be fine together until I went out. I would come back to them eyeballing one another and snarling, so I had to make the decision to find a new home. Thankfully the one I rehomed went to live as an only dog and loves it. :)

Five here of two to four years apart in age with no problems, even though there was a change of top bitch from the oldest to the middle one.

I keep two bitches together and they are happy as larry at the moment but we are always prepared for the worst...we know that it could turn at some point :) Delta is 3 and Maddy is 2

We have 2 bitches and as melodysk says we are also aware that could change, the older ones have let her believe she is topdog which is hilarious when she thinks shes running in a pack barking her head off to ward off evil carrier bags floating in the wind only to find at the point of contact the older 2 have legged it , the look on her face is priceless...

I digressed sorry mine are 17months and 4yrs..

I have two bitches and they have only three months between their ages, and apart from the odd growl, they get on really well, play together, walk, run and sometimes sleep in the same space.
One of my bitches has a litter at present and she has allowed my other bitch to enter the room and sniff the pups, that said she has only allowed her to do this since the pups turned 2 1/2 weeks old, before then my bitch that has not got the pups has respected the mummy bitch and kept her distance.
As already stated by everyone else of course bitches can live together happily. I have a house full of them many a time all get along superbly, however all are different ages and have their pecking orders. The only time there are problems are when two pup bitches are put together then hierarchy issues come into play if both want to be the Alpha, it is then pot luck as to whether one will back down and take a lesser role or not, bitch pups play fight to test one another and usually a clear leader is present if not this is when bitches will maime and kill for the role.
Not sure what your 14 monther is, but there isn't too much of an age difference between the two dogs it may cause problems due to this fact, you can't judge any dog by how it behaves outside with other dogs, living together is a totally different arena. Are they going to be different breed types and sizes?
It will greatly depend on both bitches characters, builds and breeds, to be honest you need a trial run to make sure they will get along, bitches can be the very greatest of friends and bond very closely as most of us here have already said, but then bitches and dogs too to be honest can also be indifferent to each other and some can't stand each other. They are both not fully mature adults so it is my only worry you can only test the water no-one can say for sure whether they will get along or not.
I would certainly give it a go and hope they can be great friends and companions.

Have always had bitches, 2 , 3 or 4 at at time and never really had problems with getting grumpy with each other :) I think it makes a difference how you bring them up and also into the pack :) Our girls have always been very loving to us and each other :)
Thanks, Paisley is a GS cross. I've had a few problems with her and other dogs, but mainly she is lovely, although quite dominent. So if they get on in the park that dosent mean to say they will get on in the house?? This won't be untill after my holidays in May. Should i just bring the new dog home and let them get on with it? Sorry for questions, but i have been here before with dogs, seem to get the perfect dog -a beagle- then have to rehome because of aggression, amongst other things.
Thanks againX

I have 2, both spayed, a Bernese and a Gordon Setter, they have always been fine and lived happily with our old Swedish Lapphund (dog), until he died. I think it depends on the breed though, our Bernese is very dominant but accepted the Gordon(there is 1 year between them), as although she is very pushy, like most gordon's she will back away from trouble. Having said that she is the queen of the chew sticks and will steal them happily from the bernese, who will let her

. They have always been fantastic with other dogs too, but just last week my SIL brought her 10 week old lab bitch puppy in to our house and the Bernese went nuts, barking and growling. We had to put her outside, the Gordon wanted to play and be silly. So you just never know!

I have 4 entire bitches ranging in age from 9 months to 11 years. Never had a problem at all. When the bitches have litters, they have allowed other dogs to have a look right from day 1 and even let them in the whelping box soon after that. I could not live with a breed of dog that I couldn't trust with others of it's kind - would make me very wary of other situations.

We have two bitches as well as two dogs - one of the bitches is 14 months and the other is 11 months. They live together very well, although the 11month old is definetely the pack leader and the 14 month old accepts this.

I have 3 bitches one aged 10 and two who are almost 3 - a Lab, a Malamute and a Border Terrier - they all get on great :)

I have 4 entire bitches: 3 Dobermanns and a Chinese Crested. They all get on fine.
I Have 6 bitches ranging in age from 14 months to 9 years, the only time I have had a problem is when the youngest was challenging the 2.5 year old, a minor disagreement that sorted itself out. you should be able to guage the situation when watching the girls together.
