Hi ,

I have a Newfoundland booked in to be groomed mid May. I  haven't done one before so am not really sure what is a reasonable price to charge - the owner wants a bath , blow - dry , brush and to remove the tangles under his chin ( obviously where all the slobber drips onto!! )

I have a tendency to undercharge as a don't like the thought of ripping people off , but i know he's going to be a lot of work and a handful so don't want to do myself out of what I should be earning either.

Does anyone have any idea what you think I should charge , or has anyone either groomed or had a Newfie groomed - what did it cost?

Any help would be very much appreciated

I think you'll find the price ranges from £28 to £60 but surely the client would ask before they bought the dog to you?? I would! It can take upto 3 to 4 hours to groom a Newfie properly...from matted coats to blasting taking the longest time, all the best, Dawn

I have a lady sometimes bath and dry then brush my Leos, no trimming or mats and it cost me £30.00.  I should think for a Newfie and the extra time you would have to add on to this.

Wow, I dont know where you live or if I'm being ripped off but before it did it myself I used to be charged 60-70 quid and thats for a newf with no mats.

just to add, it the dog has tangles under his chin which is the easiest place to brush, I would be surprised if he didnt have mats on has back "pants" area!

Well, I think it depends on how good a job they do!!!! The one that charged  intially £28, went upto £36, BUT...they were rubbish! I only had them done when I had my hips replaced as I couldn't physically do it myself! But after a couple of days, the older one especially, had a lovely line of 'white dandruff' down the middle of her back! She obviously had shampoo just poured over her instead of being diluted in a jug of water first! I never went back as I felt I had to do them myself properly anyway! The other price of £68 is a lady that went and did her grooming training, she had/has Newfs anyway, and that was the charge on her leaflet! I wouldn't/couldn't afford to pay that to have mine done! Anyway, I do such a good job meself it aint worth it!!! :P All the best, Dawn

I was quoted £25 just to bath/dry my Newf, any grooming would have been extra. 

Errrmmm how can they wash and dry without grooming??? If you don't groom them out before drying it increases the chances of matts???

Sorry, should have said no trimming/tidying.  She would just have been brushed out. Having a very brain-dead day today :rolleyes: 

I've never had her professionally groomed.  For quite a while she was having weekly baths with prescibed shampoo for her pyoderma so we had to bath her ourselves anyway.  Her skin is clear now but she still gets regular 'maintenance' baths and I groom and tidy her up myself.  Couldn't afford to pay a groomer regularly at those sort of prices anyway!

Actually, OH is very good about helping out with the grooming and we both enjoy doing it so another one shouldn't make too much difference :)
