my EBT will 4 next year, and i plan to do all the necessary health tests on her, she had a broken leg as a pup, and it may affect the reading on her elbow scoring, so if all health tests come back A1 except the score on her injured leg ( as a result of the break, if her other elbow is good) would you still breed her, she is a fantastic example of her breed, correct head, perfect scissor bite and her lines are superb, i am not yet sure IF i will breed her but i will be having the tests done anyway (just in case), the vet sees no problem with her carrying a litter and her breeder has positively encouraged me, suggesting suitable dogs.
Surely if the score on the leg that wasnt broken is good (even if there is a higher score on the damaged leg) we could take it that the fracture has been a factor to the score, or would you just score the leg that was not broken.
Just asking opinions.

The thing is about elbow scoring is that even if the good side is 0 and the bad side is 3 then the elbow score becomes 3. The BVA recommend that this score should not be bred from. Now genetically we know that the problem has potentially come from the broken leg but you cannot guarantee that that is the reason and some people would not be prepared to take the chance on purchasing a puppy from a bitch with a 3 elbow. However, it may not come out any higher than the good side in which case there is no problem.

In our breed, with such a Huge gene pool... and so many great dogs having a 0:0, a 1 really isnt acceptable...

"ADVICE ON BREEDING
The overall grade is used internationally as the basis far breeding advice.
Breeders are advised to select dogs with grades of ID or 1 in order to reduce
the risk of ED in their offspring.
As ED is a prevalent disease, especially in the breeds listed on page 3, such
advice will only be effective if it is continued over a number of generations.
The most difficult part of accepting such advice for many breeders is that a
number of dogs which have never been lame and exercise freely, also have
high grades. This, however, is the subclinical population with the ability to
pass the problem on in the breed. To gain long-term control of the disease
these dogs ought not to be bred from."
Information taken from a link on the Kennel club website, available for all to read!!!!
BUT, I do agree, that with the huge amount of 0 scored dogs available, it would be stupid to use a dog with anything else, although I have noticed that some of the best Labs from the past have scored 1 and were used frequently in their time ;)
thankyou, you have cleared that up for me, i will have the tests and decide what to do by the results.
after thinking it through, i wont be breeding from Bridget, if the score is affected (as it probably will) i do not see the point. thanks again for the advice.

What a responsible attitude Mabel, well done. It is a shame all breeders were not the same. edited to say I am not implying that any CD posters are irresponsible just talking as a general

How about hipscoring as well whilst she's under, may benefit you and the breed on a whole. I think that all newly formed breeds should at the very least do this.
