Topic Other Boards / Foo / Light fittings in new extension
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 22.04.07 16:24 UTC
We have two strange light fittings in our new bit, which apparently are required by Building Regs and will not fit any normal lamp shades.

Does anyone have the foggiest idea what I'm talking about, what they're called, and where I could find a shade for them?

(Our builder says that everyone normally gets building regs sign off, then promptly removes them!)

Is it the base (screw in bit) that is different ???? They maybe low energy lights - often used on the continent

Should add that I work for a lighting company so can ask where you can get these shades on Tuesday if you haven't found out by then :D

Thanks Daisy. As far as I remember it, builders (who are currently on holiday) said we needed two of these lights in the size of extension we have to comply with BR. They are a wider fitting on the base, so won't fit in the normal hole of any lampshade I can find.

These are pendant lights. They use an energy saving bulb, but not a screw-in or bayonet type, it fits directly into the light fitting on pins of some sort. A sticker on the collar of the light says that it recommends that 'branded lampshades are used' ... but it doesn't give a brand?

If no-one else has told me by Tuesday, would be grateful for your help.

Thanks,
M.

Lilly Mac

We moved in to a new house last year and we have three of these new light pendants.  I even posted on here but did not get one reply.  Ours look like energy saving light bulbs the curly ones and as you say the fitting is much wider.  I don't want to change the fitting but would just like to get a shade to fit so I hope someone comes up with some ideas for us.

Apparently, IKEA is the place to go :)

Habitat & Ikea both sell european size lampshades.  They supply you with an adaptor for british fittings.

Aha, thanks ladies. Neither of them particularly convenient for me, but at least possible! All very well bringing in these rules ... nice if you could find the accessories to go with them.
