Having trouble finding the horse of my dreams after one was sold before I got there and the other was withdrawn from the market.
So. Does anyone know of a horse for sale that fits the following requirements:
16.3hh+, heavy boned cob or hunter type, able to take 15 stone man for light hacking, kind and gentle. Preferably under 12 years of age. I'm not looking for a superstar, just a nice family horse that I could do a bit of RC with and that would be a safe hack for my nervous husband. Loving home with lots of TLC, nice stable and grazing at my friend's livery yard would await the right horse.
I am willing to travel almost anywhere to get the right horse. But. I only have £3000 to spend max to include tack, rugs etc.
And for my next miracle . . . . . :(

Hi 9th, I have no idea where you live, but Essex is running alive with horses for sale. No doubt you have Horse and Hound, but do you havr any of the other horse magazines?

I live 1 hour south of Inverness, in the middle of nowhere. It was only last night that my horse guru suggested that I need to start looking all over the country, as it will be impossible to find the ideal candidate locally.
Any suggestions of the types of magazine I should be buying? I get Horse and Hound, but otherwise my magazine buying runs to The Field and Shooting Times :)
Thanks a lot

Do you have local horsey mag? Or is that asking too much? :D I used to get Essex Rider and it was full of horses like you are after. My best horse can from an ad in there and he is almost perfect. He was being sold as his owner found dressage and Blue doesn't do dressage! :D
Other mags such as Your Horse, Horse & Rider and Horse magazine all have adverts in them. Horse and Hounds
Website has a searchable database of all the horses in both H&H and Horse magazine (I think)

Tracy & Blue (the 15.3hh cob who got struck by the electric fencing and now won't come out of the field  )

There is a Scottish Horsey newspaper which I have seen in my local newsagent, but can't remember what it is called. If you ask in your newsagent they should be able to find out for you, it definitely has Scotland or Scottish in the title

There's Scottish Equestrian - that only had a couple of ads in this month and there was nothing in the Scottish Farmer today. Thanks for your help.

If I buy a horse from Essex will it have white stilettos instead of metal shoes? :D

Yeah, and I will drive it up for you in my Cabriolet. Beware when you go to horse shows though, Essex horses tend to dance round their handbags...sorry haynets :D

Have you had a look on the BHS website, that's where I advertised my horse for loan, and he now has a wonderful home in Warwickshire..

Thanks Pammy. I didn't even know that existed. There is a 14yo gelding for loan in the borders, so I've e-mailed them. It might tide us over until the miracle horse appears!

I'll let you off !!! :D
I didn't even know about the BHS site until my 14yr old sister told me about it !! (She's horse mad too !!)
When I put mine for loan on there, I must had had at least 20 replies, and the fact that we are in Jersey didn't seem to matter :D
Good luck with it...

You've told us too much about your horse for me to fall for that ;)

What about the Farmers Guardian the horse prices are alot more realistic than in Horse & Hound and for three grand you'd probably get one that tap dances ! complete with tack.
Good luck

He's actually ok unless you want to hunt him......then you would have to be pretty competent as he tends to be a bit OTT. Otherwise he perfectly fits your description.

As hunting is illegal in Scotland and the nearest hunt anyway is 3 hours away, it wouldn't really be a problem! But you wouldn't really part with him ;)

After all this, I might have found a horse at the yard I ride at. She's the horse that everyone says if she was for sale they'd buy her like a shot. She's 13, so a bit older than I would have liked, but in all other respects she's perfect. I won't tempt fate by saying more, but I have put an offer in and now I just have to wait and see. :(
