I'm feeling really bad here, talk about a catalogue of little disasters! My brother and his partner came up to Scotland from London to my daughters 18th Birthday Party. They had decided to stay in a hotel as our house was full of my daughters friends. Anyway the room cost £140 per night B&B and was dirty and the beds were still unmade at 3pm after the first night. They told the hotel they would be back late after the party and were assured the door would be left open. They got back to the hotel at 2am to find it locked up in darkness and no one answering the phone. They came back to ours to stay but when they went back this morning there was barely an apology - it was "oh dear that shouldn't have happened"- no offer of any kind of compensation although they did refuse to pay for last night.
Anyway we were taking them to the airport today, we checked on the traffic websites for the bridge where 20min delays were being reported so we allowed an hour and a half for a 45 minute journey. As we approached the bridge the boards were saying 40 min delay so after not moving for 20 mins we had to drop them at the station to get a train to the nearest station to the airport then a taxi to the airport. When they got to station there were no taxi's there - they ended up missing the plane, had to take a train to Glasgow and pay for new flights to London.
I feel so bad for them and feel I should do something but have no idea what. Should I offer to pay for their flights? They are not short of cash but it was such an expense and although it wasn't our fault, I feel really awful.
Any suggestions would be welcome - just had to get it off my chest
