hi,
we have used our stud dog on our own bitch a a couple of others, at present he is being visited by a bitch who's owner said she was standing early at 10 days in. well we tried to no avail so she came back at 12 day, our dog very interested ect  his dog the same but still not completely ready well the thing is his bitch moves away from studs advances but then when he sort of gives up and knows she isnt ready ( hes never been one to harrass the women!) she then turn back to him and gives him little love bites all over his body, no malice just little nudges and just enough to wet his coat ( no yelping or anything)
never had this with any other bitches that have come to him
just wondered if anyones had this experience, i believe its just courtship or something like, she doesnt accept his advances but then goes back to encouraging him. any ideas?

Is she a maiden bitch?? If so this could account for it, or else she really ISN'T ready!!! Stud dogs usually know!!

hi
yes she is a maiden, her owner said this is out of her normal charactor, but then i suppose being in season and her first time she is going to be a little bit strange!
our boy would only try to mount her if she was ready, he did try to get on but she ran through so we knew that it  wasnt time

My young bitch did this. She was a maiden and just wanted to play. In the end I put her lead on as if to take her away and the dog was not happy ;) He immediately got down to business  :D I had to hold her steady, but got 2 matings on 2 different days. Once I had hold of her head she just stood there and let things happen :)

This is exactly how my Ripley flirts when she is ready to be mated. :)

Yep. A maiden bitch in particular should be held by the collar so the stud can do his job without her nerves getting the better of her. That said, I've known bitches who are very particular about which dog they'll allow to mate them. Someone I knew had a bitch who recognised her own breed and refused to have anything to do with a dog of any other breed, but flirted outrageously with her own breed! :D These girls have taste! :D
