when my 4 yr old male GSD and the neighbours 8 month old male cocker get together, they run all over the place and mine stands over the cocker looking important and the cocker licks his bits for ages,  they will run about mine will catch the cocker and knock him over.mine makes a lot of noise and the cocker wines and yaps but keeps coming back for more and goading mine to keep going. there is no biting just posturing and chasing but it seems so rough as mine is a big clumsy oaf. sometimes the cocker will get trodden on but it still comes back for more.
they are not together very ofton so they dont get a chance to get past this into quiet time. i dont intervene except to call them to me to sit for a reward and then release them again but am i doing the right thing?.
in my heart i believe they are great mates just ill matched size wise!!!!
your experienced opinions greatly welcomed.

I would expect them to take turns when roughhousing, first one throwing itself down and being mugged and chased and then swapping, for the game to be fair.

yes i agree and sometimes the cocker will chase mine but seems to want to be chased more. must admit mine wont lay down for any other dog.

I suppose there are always risks in life when playing but I must admit I won't let mine carry on like this when the sizes are so different.  If they won't calm down on instruction I would be inclined to keep one on a lead.

Our GSD used to play with the Cavaliers like that & now they play the same with my BC LOL they always win with him though, Abbie the GSD used to end up upside down with the Cavaliers dive bombing her She used to squeal with pleasure & had a really silly look on her face :-D !
