Hi all.
Well yet again i have been up since the wee small hours with heartburn. I'm sure 4 hours of destrubed sleep can't be good. Even the pups have taken pity on me and joined me at 4 am. Only difference is they are sleeping whilst i sit sipping water, visiting the loo, eating plainj bread and generally trying to make myself feel better.
So my question is ...

WHAT DID EVERYONE ELSE DO TO RELIEVE THE JOYS OF LATE PREGNANCY HEARTBURN?

I should mention that the dr has given me Gaviscon liquid which sometimes works but never gets me through the night! PLEASE any suggestions as I don't think I can cope with this and full time work (on holiday at the mo).

Oh boy - I remember the heartburn!

And this was before Gaviscon too!    It's because at this stage in pregnancy, your uterus is pushing everything up - which sometimes results in the stomach being squeezed upwards too.    Once the baby drops - which could, if this is your first pregnancy (sorry can't remember) be within the next week or so then this discomfort will lessen.

Try sleeping propped up - that helps.   Now if I have heartburn, I find that pineapple juice soothes.    Also with me, bread never did, but dry water biscuits - cornish wafers - did.    And just snooze when you can now - put your feet up and try and relax - not long to go now!

Margot

PS:   Old wives tales say that heartburn = baby with lots of hair - mine all had masses of hair - with or without the heartburn!

Will try pineanpple juice and thise bics. I can't stand milk so not an option although have found that McDonalds milkshakes are good on the run! :)

Gaviscon didn't work for me - my Dr prescribed Asilone liquid (they do a tablet form too).  It worked a treat.

Its a nightmare isn't it - it really was the one thing I hated about pregnancy.

Gaviscon, lying down, avoiding spicy food, drinking milk all helped.

Well I'll be honest- I'm 34 weeks pregnant now and I'm literally chewing on 'Rennie's' 24/7 :-(  Nothing I can do stops it- my baby's even head down etc already and it doesn't seem to have taken pressure off.  Good job I'm not a big fan of chocolate though cause this seems to set me off even worse.

How long do you have left?

I'm a week behind you Kash - 33 weeks and counting the days. Its another early rise for me today although due to a dull backache although not heartburn!

I'm now avoiding the following

most fruit (which for me is horrid as i love it but it brings acid on)
red meat
anuthing remotely spicely
fizzy drinks
geasey foods (except chips which seem to be ok)
sweet things in general

the next 7 weeks could be interesting!

Are you prepared yet? We don't even have a curtain rail in the babys room although hubby has forced me to get basics in for hospital bag bless him :)

Hi I suffer from heartburn normally as I have a hiatus hernia, I drink the magic solution called Gaviscon!! It's a great relieving nectar! My hubby hates the smell and taste of the original version, so it's a great contraception too!!! :D ;)

Forogt to say...try the Gaviscon advance...it's thicker and you need a little less of it and it might work a bit better than the ordinary one?? Worth a try maybe...soz I can't help any further...all the best, Dawn X

Well depending on my 36 week scan it could be 5 weeks if not 7. Slightly scarey but looking forward to pregnancy being over. I'm had an interesting one full of illness in the first 3-4 months, 2 good months followed by the remiander of distrubed sleep, back ache, sickness and HEARTBURN! Part of my problem is the slowing down and not being able to do things. I just can't nap during the day, I like being busy (did 3 hours gardening yesterday even with only 4 hours sleep although am feeling it now). MUST START TAKING IT EASIER :)

As you know my daughhter and granddaughter recently gave birth, both suffered serious heartburn and the only thing that helped was sucking on ice cubes it really did work for them.  Gt. granddaughter has loads of hair, and granddaughter has very little, so thats an old wives tale, if you have heartburn baby should have plenty of hair. LOL!!!!!!

Spoke to my sister whose a nurse in bham on the ladies ward. She said they give ranitide 150mg to their pregers ladies. Went out and bought gaviscon 12 hour relief which hascthat in 75mg and took one at about 9pm and guess what ........

Still no heartburn. So at least i spent the night in bed even with the umpteen bathroom trips. Am going to contact drabout a gaviscon alternative.

Thanks for the trips all and will let you know about the hair :)

Funny eh I'm counting too ;-)  Sounds like your pregnancy has gone about as good as mine :-(  Like you I can't seem to slow down or stop either- to be honest though I don't mind - my theory being that as soon as I do time will drag on and on.

Due to problems early on I've had regular scans, the last one was at 32 weeks and the baby was measuring in at 34 weeks, then on Tuesday when I went to see the midwife she said the baby was measuring in at 31 weeks (bear in mind I was 34wk) but she wasn't concerned since I have another scan at 36 weeks?  Now to me going for  the check up Tuesday meant he should have measured 36 weeks (being 2 wk in front previously) or at least have evened out to a normal 34 wk- I can't understand how he could have lost the 2 wk head start he had AND dropped 3 weeks?  Does anyone have any ideas- OH says ignore the midwife she's taken a cr*p measurement- easier said than done though

Do you find you get a dull ache/slight pain now, being this far on, when your bladder's full?

How strange with the measurements. At my old dr there was this midwife that did my booking in and she ticked all these things saying she had discussed everything when she hadn't. The last time i saw her i told her about these horrid pains that actually stopped me doing anything and she just said 'Oh i don't think thats to do with pregnancy'. She didn't even note it down on my records! New midwife is lovely and only had a baby 9 moinths ago so i feel quite happy with her. Maybe your little one realises mummy doesn't want to have to push a large baby out, that or a dodgy measurement but its hard to put things like that to the back of your mind.

I haven't had the dull ache until this morning and it was accompanied by pains round the bump. Was sat there worrying it might be labour but its all gone now! When i have a full bladder I just have pain and have to go NOW! :)

What makes me laugh is the people who tell you to take it easy and rest during the day. I'm a head of department in a great school with a full teaching timetable which means some days i teach from 8.30 til 11.35 How am i supposed to rest when i have at least 20 students doing practicals! :) All being said and done I have discovered that some studnets (especially the a level ones) are more than happy to carry something for me. Bless them.

Have you got mush sorted for the forthcoming arrival?

Don't know if you can still get it but with my eldest (Now 32 and mother of 3?) I  Used to get pepermint liquid from the chemist and just a few drops in some hot water to sip used to get me through the night with comfort. Never had heatburn with the second child....she waited till she was born to make my life as difficult as possible!!! she is also now a Mother of one and I hope her daughter is getting her back for me ????

Isn't it meant to mean a baby with a headful of hair?
Karen ;-)
