I had a femal degu give birth to 8 lovely little babies... she died.. :(
So i tried hand rearing these little rodents...
they all died except 2
got up every two hours fed them, cleaned their bums etc
then friday just gone my rat was out and about strolling like he usually does... dont ask me how but he got in the degu cage and killed one! Im gutted... i didnt half cry... :(
So the one remaining one is heartbroken .. crying non stop

never a dull moment in my house, i can tell ya!

So sorry Donna, especially after all that hard work. :( It is SO difficult to handrear small animals and says a lot about you that you managed to get two to survive! This is why I stopped keeping rats despite being a club officer, international judge etc for years, I got fed up with them killing everything in sight (as they could work out how to escape from almost any cage no matter what) including a giant French Lop rabbit with her entire litter...... :(

My god! Thats sad :(
Im still gutted but have kind of got used to one baby to tend to now... he is probably so fed up with me picking him up and kissing him!
I have learnt my lesson well and all rats are not safely locked up!
Its a shame it had to happen... :(

That's so sad. I hope the last little one makes it!

My rats  kill anything that moves ... including toes.

Im sure the remaining one will make it now... ive re introduced him to his dad and he's loving all the attention.
They are snuggled up together as i type...

My rat (the culprit) 'zulu' is still in my bad books.... but i need to forgive and forgot dont i? its only nature afterall... hmm that sounds bad... i dont mean to sound matter of fact... i just mean i cant dwell on it
