Topic Dog Boards / General / No puppy :(

After a few days obsessively checking emails for news of the birth, I got an email the other day apologising for the delay of news due to crazy busyness with pups - and telling me that there weren't enough bitches in the litter for me to get my pup. :(  Very, very dissapointed now..

But, the breeder did mention that the bitch reserved by someone in her family may yet become available due to circumstances (using her words) - and would I like to be told if she does?  Daft question!

So now I'm waiting to find out either way.  The pups will be 7 weeks in 6 weeks' time (if that makes sense!), I expect I'll know by then.  In the meantime I'll carry on as I was - puppy-proofing aside, the things I was going to do to the house desparately need doing anyway, like dog-proofing the pond and replacing half my fences :D

That's a breeders nightmare :( My breed just now seems to have an influx af males, so bitches are snapped up almost as soon as they are born. It's a shame really, dogs are so much easier to live with :D

Oh, I'd have a dog if I could - but Remy wouldn't have it in the house once it entered puberty

Goodness, I think the boys are lovely in their boyish way, but give me the girls to live with any day :D

 Feel for you, nothing like getting excited about the new arrival, I waited over 12 months for mine and then it came as a complete suprise when we were offered Kez from the litter but good things come to those who wait as the saying goes so I am sure a little one will turn up at the right time for you and fingers crossed the bitch reserved might become yours.

Oh goodness me, I am in the same position.  Hard isn't it.  I will find out finally tomorrow but am lucky that another litter from the same line, different breeder, may have a bitch - she is due to whelp this week.  I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

I hate having to let people down, it is the worst job to do. I do however ask them if they wish to stay on 2nd reserve but also contact people I know within the breed to locate them a puppy. It usually works out well in the end for all concerned. I do feel for you though and hope that circumstances  may change to enable you ta have one of these pups. Be positive and keep smiling.

This is the main reason I have mine checked for pregnancy, and I always tell them that I can put them in touch with another breeder if the sexes and numbers don't work out.  This is important in a numerically small breed, and stops people booking with several breeders, so some people get disappointed and a breeder finds they haven't got the bookings they thought.

Unfortunately this was a one-off litter, a total accident, so no other breeders to check.  The only reason the pregnancy wasn't aborted (it was booked in to be) was because the sire died of torsion shortly after the mating, poor guy.  The owner wanted to keep a pup on in his memory.

My problem is not enough girls   But the other lady I was put in touch with has 4 bitches, 2 reserved and we are going up to meet Mum next Monday.  She also has Mum's Dad and Mum and another bitch from the same bitch and stud dog so fingers crossed.
