can you give me some ideas of what to put my litters weaning porridge in while trying to wean them??
At moment I am using a saucer.
Someone suggested a piece of guttering??

I used a quiche/flan dish  to start with until they were eating well enough to eat out of individual bowls, or maybe a small tray would do?

oh thank you chocymolly! why did I not think of that! it must be due to still sleeping on the sofa!!:confused:

A roasting tin is qiute good if you have a large breed or big litter of pups.

I start mine on a sandwich tray (the long low lipped melanine ones) like a normal tray but thinner, then put the food in a large  metal weaning dish as they get older, at 5 weeks they have individual bowls. A friend buys new guttering and end caps, she uses this from 4 weeks of age.

As others have said, any sort of flat/low sided tray that you actually have already will be fine :)

As they get older and are more likely to try and eat their dishes too you can change to proper dog bowls.

Remember to choose something that looks comfortable to sleep in too! :D

I got some flat dishes from Pets at Home which were plastic and had a non-slip bottom which I found very useful on a tiled floor, as the metal flan dishes I tried first ended up being sent all over the place and used as a sleigh!

I put the metal dshes on a couple thicknesses of newspaper, helped with clearing up after.

chaumsong, bless what a picture!!!!
Pups are already trying to re paint my floor with porridge! I think I need to hire a wet suit as I seem to be changing my clothes everything I serve porridge due to pups walking it everywhere!!!!!

Thanks all of you for your help, xx

I use 12 inch flat dog metal dishes/pans.  Have never fed any pups seperately nd never had problems with pups being food guarders as I always feed to appetitie with enough left over after everyone has had their fill for Mum to finish off.

This is what I use as well!

I used a 6 portion mini cake tin and then progressed to a 6 portion tart tin. I was able to make sure that all got the right quota of food each time and they didnt push each other out the way. I only have a smallish breed 6 in the litter and it worked brilliantly, though my friends didn't want to eat any cakes i had made after showing them puppy feeing time!

Well, I have found a thin lipped tray that I am using now, my god do they make a mess!!!  And also have been putting newspaper around (thanks for the tip Brainless!)

My next question is:
The pups seem to have got used to this lapping porridge, and they seem to feed of mum and then carry on whining until I bring some porridge for them!?
Is this normal for them to want porridge after feeding from mum?
Once they have had a couple of laps of porridge they all fall fast asleep!!

If Mums milk is starting to not be enough then they may still be hungry, or like the new taste.
