Well, did anyone think our house move would go smoothly?  I doubt anyone that knows us will be surprised to know it didn't! After having had to delay things due to me being ill, we planned to move out on Saturday the 31st of March -and very optimistically planned to go to a breed Open show the day after. Needless to say, things did not quite turn out like this!

Not only did we seem to have about five times more belongings than we had counted on (we have very little furniture, but let's just say that my books alone took up no less than 22 removal boxes....) so we did not manage to fit everything into the van we'd rented in just two trips as planned. But also, we did not count on the dogs. Hand on heart, it was my own fault. Clearing the house and packing everything, some of the last things to be packed were the dogs' food and medication. One of my Goldens is on epilepsy medication, and very foolishly I left one of the bottles of tablets on the kitchen counter. It was too far away for any dog to reach, but I have a strong suspicion that a certain Maine Coon cat belonging to my other half had a paw in things here. John arrived into the kitchen to find the tablets were on the floor and Rio (11 month old Malinois) and Kiara (13 week old Golden) busily playing with them. Collecting the tablets and counting them we realised that 11 were missing. Knowing how greedy both Rio and Kiara are, chances were they had indeed eaten them. A phone call to the vet (out of hours on a weekend, of course) quickly told us both pups were of high risk of dying and would have to be brought in immediately. Hence we arrived at the vet's in the removal van (the car being parked elsewhere) with two lively, happy pups. Both were given injections to vomit and vomit they did -over and over and over. In Kiara's case it was a case of everything coming out both ends at the same time! After a couple of hours they finally stopped and were then force fed liquid charcoal. By this time both looked decidedly worse for wear, but were still wagging their tails at the vet! We arrived home with two tired and dirty dogs late in the evening, and needless to say had to cancel any plans for the show and for moving out that very day. Both pups needed to be closely supervised so we could not even leave them and go with just Ripley.

Eventually we finally moved out on the Monday, and spent several days unpacking everything. We are now safely in the new house and very nice it is too but I think it will be months yet before we are completely finished with all jobs that needs doing. But all that's another story...... :) Finally I am back on the computer !

The last nightmare in the old house Marianne...

New house, no more hassles. So pleased you're finally in  :)

Are the cat cabins etc all installed and do they like their new indoors accomodation?
- By ice_queen Date 10.04.07 07:28 UTC
Pleased that you moved even with the hassle!!!!

Enjoy the new house :)  and I hope the dogs will be fine aswell :)
- By Lori Date 10.04.07 07:32 UTC
Hurray, woo woo, yeeehawwwwwww!!!!!!
Well hopefully that bad luck fairy that's been making your life miserable for a year will stay with the old house!! Pups, who needs them! :) I'm glad that Rio and Kiara are all right after they're run in with drugs (OK, Rio is a teen but Kiara is a bit young for drug culture!)

Congratulations on being in your new home Marianne. Whatever unpacking and jobs need doing are still going to be better than the threat of bad neighbors looming over your head. Just think, you'll be able to leave the house again! I hope you are very happy in your new home.

LOL Rio is a teenager alright -she's at THAT stage!

Also forgot to mention, which will especially interest you Lori -old Dandy the Golden had of course already lived here since September when we had to split him up from the other male dogs. We always assumed the problem was only Rambo (RIP) and that things would be okay again now when  he's no longer with us. Well I'm pleased to say we had no problems at all.Dandy is back in the pack and it's all fine. He was VERY impressed with his 11th birthday present which he assumed must be Kiara -wow, a GOLDEN RETRIEVER puppy and she's a GIRL! He's one happy boy!! :D

>Dandy is back in the pack and it's all fine.<

I'm so glad to hear this. I bet Dandy is very happy to be back with you and all the gang - and that he loves the puppy and thinks she's his prezzie. :) I hope this house brings a real tide of change for you and things just keep going up. :-D
I still think Dandy would have liked Camp Geordie ;-)
- By Goldmali Date 10.04.07 22:05 UTC
He seemed perfectly happy all the time he was here on his own -undivided human attention all the time etc. But he didn't like to stay outside, he'd go out for a wee and demand to be let in again at once. He got walked every day but it was slowly plodding along. But when the other dogs arrived back, all of a sudden he was RUNNING, playing, jumping, and being perfectly happy to stay outside for hours with the others. It showed so clearly that he had missed the company of his friends, he was so happy to have them back.Even though Rio has chewed up his favourite toy that he'd had for years and years !! And yes, bet he would have liked Camp Geordie. :) I just never realised just how much he missed canine friends.

Ha, yes! I would love to know where the guarantee papers are for the fairly new washing machine, because it isn't working! And WHAT happened to my mobile phone holder in the shape of a cat? And also where oh where are the Crufts cards and rosettes from last year? I have all the others and was going to put them on the wall, but 2006 have vanished.

Hubby couldn't find his new work boots so had to dig out the old ones he'd put in the bin to be able to go to work LOL!!
- By Dill [gb] Date 12.04.07 22:01 UTC
Just caught up with this!

WOO HOO !!

It must be a great feeling knowing that you're going to be able to relax (eventually) in your new home :D :D :D

Bad Luck and Good Riddance to the bad luck fairy - hope it's gone to live with your old neighbours! :D :D :D

You'll find the things eventually - when you've forgotten why you wanted them  :D :D  isn't that what moving hoise is all about??
- By Goldmali Date 12.04.07 22:11 UTC
Well I've had some luck! Found almost everything! Found the Crufts CARDS but not the rosettes. Now I was ruthless when packing and threw away everything I could which included several bagfulls of cat show rosettes (Only kept BOBs) -have an awful feeling the Crufts rosettes may have gone the same way by accident. But at least I have the cards, and it was only for one year.

Everything is looking up, it is SOOOOO nice to be able to go out for a dog walk whenever I want now without having to worry about making sure somebody stays with the other dogs. (Obviously can't walk 9 all at once LOL.) The dogs are intrigued at all new smells out here -rabbits, cows, you name it. :D

All the best for your nes home. Heres hoping it bringd of happiness. We moved 4 days before xmas (i was 4 months pregers then, and hadn't bargined on how much it would take  out of me. Also didn't realise how much the dogs would be unsettled. We moved into a 3 storey and little Freya kept going to the top floor after going out during the night/early morning and then whining when she couldn't find us (we're on middle floor). Nearly 4 months on and the girls love it here as do we. Have spent the last week laying a patio and putting in some borders so when on maternity leave i can sit out and enjoy a gin and tonic (can't wait!).
I hope you are as happy as we are.
best wishes

Marie
