I'll try not to make this too long!
I have a 4 year old Staffie and in the last couple days it look like she has lumpy skin!  To explain it, as she is a short coated breed it looks as though she has been scratched which would then cause the skin to raise making her coat look bumpy.  Does anyone know why this may happen?
A couple times she has had the odd one or two raised patches but now it seems to cover alot of her back, I thought it may have been where she has squeezed through a little gap to get in the bigger part of the garden but I don't think this is the case.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.

my staffy gts lumpy skin that resembles really bad cellulite when she is running through nettles. The other situation she gets lumpy looking involves the hair looking raised rather than the skin and this is when she catches herself on something e.g. branches and it scabs over.  If that is what it is cue a baldy looking staffy soon when the scabs fall off.

Both my staffies have come out in lumps after they have been in garden on separate occasions. We took them to vets and vet said they had an allergic reaction to something possibly something they ate in garden or possibly wasp sting. In my older bitch it got alot worse secong time round but puppy only got few lumps on back. Searched garden high and low but cant find what it could be.

I saw something like that last year with a horse we were looking after.  Only seemed to happen in very warm weather.  I couldn't figure it out either....the bumps didn't last long, and the horse was absolutely fine

I would say this is an allergic reaction, just like the hives you would get.

My staffie some time ago had exactly the same thing happen only some bumps joined and resembled welts,she had actually ate some of my sons quavers when he had dropped them and this is what caused the reaction,a cool bath seemed to help ,and like with hives you can get antihistamines to help with any itching and swelling,hope you find the cause and your staffie gets back to normal asap:)My house is now a quaver free zone so fortunately shes had no more outbreaks

You can get antihistamine cream, which might be useful with a short coated dog.

my staffies have had the same thing  and i give them 5ml of piriton syrup also gave it when one of them got stung by a wasp, it did the trick, the lumps went down after a few hours.

Thanks for the replies.  She hasn't got any worse but still has slightly bumpy skin, I think it is maybe an allergy and could be to do with the grass as she has recently been allowed back on the grass in the garden and its started since the weather has been warmer.  I have given her antihistamine tonight and will see if this helps.
