I give mine Benylin at the childrens dose.  That is all you can do I am afraid other then restricting his exercise. If he likes ice cubes I find they can help sooth the throat.

Hi Belinda-jayne,

I have no experience of KC myself, but have you taken your boy to the Vets? They may give him an injection to help any inflammation in his throat.

Can't believe you are still waiting on a decision for TPLO, are you seeing the Specialist for this? We visited the one in Devizes, don't know if you know of him as you're from Wiltshire?

Oh Dear, poor soul. Don't worry though, KC is fairly common and no danger to healthy adult dogs. The benylin won't cure it - it's a viral infection, but is to ease his throat and hopefully cut down on his coughing. You can give him it 4 times a day - check with your vet if unsure. The best thing is to try and keep him calm, when they get excited they tend to cough more.

How about interspersing the dose with a teaspoon of honey to help ease the throat.

Years ago, when mine had KC, I gave them childrens cough mixture, mixed with ice cream (vet recommended it), and it seemed to sooth their throats, worth a try, poor lad.

Has he just been out for the toilet? I always found that mine coughed worse with the different air temperatures - like when you let them out in the cold night air.
