can anyone help? my friend has a dog who has got small crystal particles in the bladderhas anyone had this problem and has it affected the dogs fertility as regards mating (this is a male) she was told that the sperms are attacking the crystals and dying before they get to the eggs i have,nt a clue on this but said i would ask on champdogs
As sperm have no business being in a bladder that sounds like gobbledygoop to me :) She would be best asking her vet but in generally I would not consider breeding from any animal that was not in perfect health.
My MIL's dog had crystals in his urine and their vet strongly advised them to get him neutered and not to use him for breeding (they didn't plan to anyway) Since being neutered he has been fine.
she,s knows no sperm in the bladder The sperm test revealed that the sperm attacked possible crystal particals affecting sperm motability dog is only on special food diet to dissolve crystals .vet admits not a lot of knowledge of fertility
We are getting it fourth hand here so hard to know just what the vet is trying to convey but I have certainly never heard of sperm attacking anything but eggs :) Whatever as the dog has a tendancy to form crystals in his urine I would not be considering breeding him anyway.
