Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Unearthed - BBC tape re Crufts :)
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 03.04.07 12:25 UTC
This recording has secretly been passed to me by a BBC mole, and gives an insight into the reasons behind the poor agility coverage. Names have been changed to protect the guilty.
The following meeting took place immediately after the opening day at Crufts, and was a discussion between The Producer and the 2 presenters, who for the duration of this narrative shall be known as "Horsey Lady" and "Goofie Male". The subject was; How best to edit all the material shot and make an interesting program.

PRODUCER:      "Firstly, I feel that we should name the programme "Crufts 2007"

GOOFIE MALE:   "Can we call the show, "Goofie and Horsey do Crufts". After all it is about us first and foremost, the dogs are just a by-product?"

PRODUCER:      "No, we have to give the impression to the general public who watch our rubbish that we are actually interested in the dogs themselves."

HORSEY LADY:   "Fair enough, but we need to feature as much as possible, after all we have built this expensive "Bubble" for us to sit in"

GOOFIE MALE:   "I know, we can show lots of trivial little items of us doing things with dogs to show what fun-loving genuine dog-lovers we are, which in turn will make viewers keen to see more of us rather than whats going on in the show."

HORSEY LADY:   "We can get our experts to spout long long-winded explanations about show dog confirmation and shots of grooming and static dogs, and long irrelevant items about dogs saving the planet and that sort of thing, so that when we go back into our studio to talk about ourselves, which is really what its all about, the audience will be happy."

GOOFIE MALE:    "I agree. You must remember the terms of my contract with the BBC Mr Producer, my hairstyle must be featured regularly as part of a forthcoming advertising promotion for "Axle Grease" Hair Products."

MR PRODUCER:  "Ok, thats agreed then we will show as much as possible of you presenters doing inane things, and smiling into the camera, interspersed with lots of show-dogs prancing around, and other non exciting items. But what about Agility, shouldn't we show some of that, it is of great interest to our viewers, and is by far the most popular dog activity of the moment?"

GOOFIE MALE:   "No, no no! How could we possibly maintain our audiences interest in us, if we put on anything as exciting as that? They will keep asking for more, and we could get sidelined."

HORSEY LADY:   "I know. We could put on a couple of minutes of it right at the end of the show, after we have said our goodbyes, in the hope that by the next nights coverage the viewers will have forgotten about it."

MR PRODUCER:   "And we could finish it off with that moron falling through the barrier with his dog, so that they don't take agility too seriously."

HORSEY LADY and GOOFIE MALE in unison: "That's sorted then!"

OOH Brilliant!  I could actually hear their voices as I read this   :D :D :D :D

Do away with all the Crufts presenters I say, all we need is loads of footage of the various parts of the show showing the DOGS, and a voiceover - Peter Purvis would do and someone knowledgeable to write it ;)  Sort of like Living Planet, Meercats or Wildlife on 1,   lets see....  they could call it...

CRUFTS DOGSHOW !!!   :D :D

Or maybe they should just let David Attenborough direct and produce the programme, at least it would feature the dogs!
