Mt bitch had a litter about 9 days ago. Over the last few days the discharge has turned from browny red to brighter red - is this OK?

I would say not as this suggests a fresh bleed rather than old stuff draining. I would see the vet.
When a bitch whelps the colour of discharge will change from greeny brown yuck to brown but should never go back to bright red. I would get her to the vets asap to get her checked out. Did you count all placenta's out when the pups were born ? As Isabel says bright red blood is fresh so something is going on inside.
Checked with vet but he says normal. Will keep an eye in case gets worse,
Pleased that all is normal, worrying time when things like this happen. Good luck with your litter
thanks - think got most afterbirths but she was eating them so quickly. Had litter of 9 (normal delivery) so bit of healing to do I guess.
Sometimes they can have raw spots that may bleed, just keep your eye on her and if it continues I would take her back. Enjoy those babies
I would also be keeping a very close eye on her temp. I agree I don't think the discarge should b e read, it goes from darkish green to dark browny red but not bright red.
