I've started to feed Molly on JWB ocean fish, with sometimes sardines, white fish or cheese. I've now started adding Nature Diet to it, but I've just read on another post that the JWB should be balance enough without the added foods I put with it. I put the extras in to make her more interested, but perhaps I'm putting too much with the biscuits! Molly has just JWB in the morming with a little cheese (that she doesn't always eat all of it) & in the evening she has it with either 2 fairly smallish portions of white fish or a tin of 3 sardines or about 1/2 to 3/4 of a tub of Nature Diet, (she mainly eats all of this). Molly is 19mths & has good running exercise every day. Am I putting too much extra in?? Molly is a EBT, quite a slim build, she was last weighed at 23g.

I don't feed complete myself but was under the impression that complete food has all the nutrients in it that are required and at the required balance. I would have thought that adding additional food to the kibble would upset the balance of nutrients - just my opinion but someone else will probably be able to be more specific. :)

Would have thought that she will end up not eating any of the JWB, just the additions :) :) You might as well just feed a raw diet :)

I was advised on CD to add the extras to make the JWB more interesting.

Some members may find that that works :) I can't see that, nutritionally, it matters. However, often it is reported on here that the dog just picks out the 'tastier' bits and leaves the rest. IMO, if a dog isn't eating the food it is often because either they just aren't hungry (they are being given too much) or they are hoping that they will be given something else instead - which, in their experience, has happened previously :) It just depends who decides what the dog eats - the dog or the owner :) :)

I have spent ages trying to find a food that she eats, as per my 'Co-op food' post last month. I wasn't sure then what was healthy AND tasty for her. I received lots of very helpful information, that is how came to the JWB with extras. I decide what Molly eats, not Molly, I am aware of dogs 'trying it on'. She eats the kibble aswell as the extra bits, not just picking bits out.

I think you may be talking about my thread. However I meant supplements. I always give a little bit of extra something but never supplements, i.e. Canovel, etc but especially not extra supplements to a puppy as it can unbalance the system whilst in a growth period.

Hi akh0706,
I feed a little naturediet or natures menu along with Arden Grange. I feed 3/4 dry and 1/4 wet. Just work out the daily feeding amounts for your dogs weight for each food then subtract acordingly to balance it out...if that makes sense

:-D

Hi Alison, yes it was your post! When you mentioned supplements, I thought you meant extras & had a semi panic!
Thanks luvhandles, that's the info I was looking for!

Adding a 'balanced' food(naturediet) to another 'balanced' food(JWB) does not now make it an unbalanced meal ;)
I think the general concensus of adding fresh foods to a dry food is around 25% of fresh to dry.I'm no good with percentages,i feed by eye and probably feed much more than 25% fresh food mixed into my dogs dry food...

I always add something extra to make the dry food more appealing but don't worry about unbalancing the foods. i don't eat an exactly balanced diet every day and my menus are not scientifically measured for optimum benefit but I'm here and I'm healthy. When you look at the junk dogs can eat in the park etc (including poo

) a wee bit of nature diet added in isn't going to make a huge difference. I'm no expert on feeding but I go with what appears to make my dog happy.

I'm puzzled why people feel the need to add 'something' to make a dry food more appealing :) Surely you either just feed the dry food and the dog will eat it eventually as he/she won't starve themselves or you feed something that the dog will eat ??? Am I just being too simplistic ?? :D :D My dogs will eat anything put in front of them - they are normally fed on a raw diet, but will quite happily eat Nature Diet or even kibble (older dog was fed on kibble when we got him and ate it quite happily until he went onto raw). Both my dogs are kept on the lean side and are always hungry when food is served up :) One is a mongrel and the other an Aussie, so no breed thing :) If Nature Diet is so popular to add to kibble, why not give up on the kibble ??

It takes my dogs about ten seconds flat to finish their food and the only times I add something to it is if I happen to have leftovers from our dinner such as pasta -which isn't often. :)

:) That's how I knew Tara was ill a couple of weeks ago - she hadn't demolished her food in a few seconds :D :D First time ever :D :D If it's food, they eat it :)

Yep that sounds like my lot! :D

I generally add chicken, mince or fish or leftovers rather than naturediet although do sometimes use it. Food gets boring if you eat the same thing all the time and if I had to eat a plain salad all the time I'd not be happy but adding other veggies/meat/cheese etc makes something healthy more appealing. Each to their own.
