Topic Other Boards / Foo / Bernards abcess still draining!!
- By Christine Date 29.03.07 05:37 UTC
What an awful day yesterday was :(

Berns abcess is still draining, has been since he was discharged & docs keep saying it will stop when its ready & better out than in. He was given more a/b`s 2 wks ago (they`re due to finish tomorrow)& that seemed to help, on Tuesday it had almost stopped & we were down to little dressings, then Tues night he wasn`t feeling too good, I thought it was because of Bonnie.

Then yesterday morning there was more gunge on his dressing than had been of late so took his temp & it was 37.9!! After I buried Bon I checked his dressing again & it was soaked & his temp was 38.5 so said thats it back to hospital right now!! Got to A & E 3.30 pm ish & didn`t get home till 8pm last night. They gave him a/b`s intavenously & nearly kept him in. They decided to let him come home tho but he`s to go back on Friday morning. They`ve added another a/b to the 1 he`s already taking & he`s on them for another 2wks :( Why won`t the damn thing heal up :mad:  Oh forgot, when they took his temp at the hossy it had gone down to 36.5 so they *think* it could be either the last dregs of it coming out or a new one forming!!

I feel at breaking point but keep telling myself have to go on, carry on things`ll get better soon.....but when???????!!!!!!!! I just can`t believe whats been happing lately, I hardly have time to think, so many things are happening & so fast. Everything keeps changing from 1 day to another :(

Christine you are really having a rough time of it.  Sometimes life does seem to be really unfair, being the carer of the ones you love is not easy but you will get the strength from somewhere. Remember you must also take care of yourself.  Joany x

Christine - I'm so sorry you're having such a rough time. Worry and anxiety can be very exhausting and I'm sure you're just longing for a return to normality.
I do hope that things improve very soon and that Bernard's abcess heals well.
Thinking of you

Oh Christine - life is really tough sometimes isn't it - and at the moment you have more than your fair share of lifes turmoils to deal with.

So sorry that it has been such an awful week - you are allowed to feel like this you know.

I'm sure that you are probably feeling alot worse having just said goodbye to Bonnie - grief is a tough thing to deal with on top of everything else you are dealing with too!

My best wishes to you both - I hope Bernard is feeling much better soon.

sending positive thoughts and a big hug to you with a cup of tea too.

I'm so sorry Christine, you've had way too much to cope with recently. From somebody who's been at the very darkest, lowest point, believe me, even when it doesn't seem like it, things WILL get better. One day things will turn around. I'm kepeing everything crossed for Bernard and hope the abscess will heal up properly now.

Christine you poor woman. You've had way too much happen. I think the strength to carry on comes from plain need. I feel for you and if I could send you some of mine I'd pack up the strength booster! Go ahead and feel a little overwhelmed, tell us all about it and get it off your chest. I find just airing some feelings helps. Huge hugs to you Christine. And huge batches of hope that things will start getting better.

You certainly don't need more of this just now, Christine :(. I hope this latest round of antibiotics gets to grips but try not to let it get to you, it'll get there in the end I'm sure, easier said than done I know :)

Hi Folks, thanks for the kind words :)

On the Friday morning the doc decided to pack the abcess, stopped all the a/b`s, (Bern had terrible d/rear) so that meant we had to go every day to have it dressed. Things were looking good & it had almost stopped by the following Wednesday so they said come back on good Friday cos there was no packing in it by now.

Woke up on good Friday & it had leaked everywhere but also with some blood in it!!!! Spent the day in A& E. When blood tests came back Dr was surprised, they were very good & shows his body is fighting the infection, he thinks the packing irritated the wound so said no more & also gave him a new a/b. It`s looking good right now & once again has almost stopped draing, just hope to goodnes it goes away fully this time, feels like we`ve been living at the hossy!

He`s due to start his chemo next Monday, had his bloods taken yesterday to see if things are ok for it. He`s quite good in himself, considering. Eating everything & even gained a little weight. He might even be going in his office later to say hello. We don`t have to go back to hossy till next Monday so hope to have a few relaxing days & try catch up with things:)

Hope you all had a good Easter :)

Sorry to hear the road has continued to be a rocky one at times but very pleased to hear Bernard is now feeling much better and if he is now considering a little socialising at work the general trend is clearly on the up and up :)  I'm sure with your special care the next phase will be soon conquered too :)
