Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew where i could purchase Enervite, I have looked everywhere and no-one seems to stock it now.
The reason i need it is because my mums pregnant rottie does not eat very well, She had all checks done, is in perfect health but just does not seem to eat much.
She is 5 weeks into her pregnancy, We have never owned a dog that was like this, Junk food she will eat with no problems, We have cut out all treats, She is currently eating cooked tripe as she will not eat anything else but even that she is not eating very much.
Vet has said nothing wrong with her so is stumped at why she is not eating properly, He thinks could be she is not that hungry as scan only showed up 4 pups but i know how wrong they can be
Any help would be greatly appreciated

I thought they did too Ktee, but I've just been searching thier site and can't find it?? Maybe it's not made anymore?

Its not showing on their website.. but Skyota (on feeding section) was looking for Enervite to recently.. I recieved Canine Chemist's new updated catalogue with Dog World last Friday, and it clearly shows that enervite is clearly back in stock.. I'd try emailing them like Skyota did.
HTH

I don't start increasing food intake until a bitch is in her sixth week of pregnancy, and then only slowly so that by whelping she is getting half as much again as normal (but I do swap to a puppy or performance food as soon as they are confirmed in whelp).
Will the bitch not eat the tripe raw. I cannot imagine the smell if I had to cook green tripe, defrosting in a closed container is bad enough

Also it is quite normal for itches to get picky in pregnancy. they will turn their nose away one minute to happily eat an hour later.
Giving several small meals a day is a good idea, as they cannot face a large amount of food. A bit like us after a heavy night out, or on the other hand while we have morning sickness. Bitches tend to feel that way later in pregnancy, not the start as we do.
Thanks for the help everyone, She will eat quite abit around 11 oclock at night, She has not gained any weight even though she is in whelp, She has always been a picky eater but even more now.
Again thanks for all the help
If 11pm is when she gets her appetite whilst she is in whelp don't worry about it give her as much as she will eat at that time. ;-) You can work on that at a later date.
Is she still getting plenty of exercise?
To avoid giving your bitch loads of supplements she really needs a complete puppy food to give her everything that she needs, can you not soak some and mix it in with her tripe or whatever else she may choose to eat. Have you tried scrambled egg and chicken too? Will she eat raw meats at all?
If she is healthy she will eat when she is hungry many dogs only want one meal on an evening. Every bitch will vary, mine has always had a great appetite, but I have known others whose bitches completely loose their appetites having basically nothing for a week or so before whelping, but even so the pups have all been healthy and the whelpings have gone well.
Try not to worry, if your vet says she is healthy trust your bitch to be eating at least the minimum requirements.
Bitches don't always gain weight until the very end of pregnancies there is no normal, pups can hide very well behind rib cages and make a bitch not look pregnant when in fact she has some huge pups hidden away, try not to look and feel worried infront of your bitch she will pick up on it, just allow her to be completely normal, she will eat when she needs it, I would advise you to always have a bowl of dried complete puppy food down for her to pick at if she wishes, throughout the day and night aswell as her other feeds.

Hi
My bitch hardley ate anything when in welp. I was convinced she wasnt getting enought for the pups and if she was she would be skin and bone when they were born. But i was wrong she had 3 pups all of good size and weight and she was a bit on the thin side but not bad concidering. She also didnt eat the first week they were born but drank gallons of Lactol.
I know it is a worry but try not to get to stressed about it or the bitch will pick up on it and you dont want her stressed to.

Just a thought has her throat been checked? I had a bitch years ago that had a very sore throat. It wasn't spotted until she was almost due . She hardly ate and would prefer soft food. She still produced a sturdy litter! Hope all goes well for your girl.
Hi yeah everything is fine with her, vet thought the same but her throat seems fine, I bought some Nurish-um today and she ate a little more than usual, I cooked some pork chops shredded up the meat and mixed it with her food and she has eaten that so i am guessing its a case of finding things she is going to eat.
She can go through half a bowl of Beta large puppy dried food during the night so maybe that is when she is wanting to eat, Think i will try putting food down for her on a night see how she does.
Thank you all for your help :)

xx

www.hubint.co.uk you may have to ring them
I went out and bought some chopped raw hearts and chopped raw tripe and she devoured it.
All the websites i have been on including some veterinary sites have stated its better for them anyway.
Mind the tripe smells absolutley awful but she ate it all and did not leave any at all so think it looks like finally found something she going to eat.
If dates are correct i should be able to feel or see the pups moving but i can't mind her rib area is broad yet she still has a waistline so i am guessing she hiding them high up thats why i can not feel or see them move.

Do be careful if she will ONLY eat the heart and tripe, as she won't get much calcium from it, so could be more prone to eclampsia. It might be worth checking with your vet in case she wants any supplements. HTH. :)
She also eating large uncooked bones, aswell as drinking lactol. SHe also has nurish-um everyday so hopefully that will be enough for her now.
She is now starting to look pregnant now and i actually felt them move which was great.
I will check with the vet and make sure that what she is getting is enough.
Thanks for all the help
Hi i have to carry on my other posting in here so here is an update.
Hi everyone, Well my mums dog was confirmed pregnant by a scan, Vet says 4-5 whelps her date of mating was the 24th january, Vet asked if she was sure and that is the only mating she had, the vet said its just the pups look small.
Well i got that not eating problem sorted now, The problem is that her stomach is now soft, No movement from any pups cant feel anything in her stomach.. When she sits her stomach is hard when she jumps up her stomach is hard but when she is lay down and relaxed its soft...
So if dates are correct there should be some movement also her stomach would not be soft.
What is the chance that she has aborted the litter or miscarried.
SHe has no discharge, Is well in herself she seeing the vet on monday i just wondered what you think..
This is her first litter, She has lots of energy i am thinking thats why she has stayed in shape.
I just thought there should be some movement, She is still eating drinking has no discharge and is acting as normal.
I have taken her temp and that is normal too, She keeps herself very clean always washing her vulva and mammarys, Well i will see what tomorrow brings hopefully she is still in whelp.
As said when vet did scan she only saw 4-5 whelps so maybe she is keeping them well hidden high up still.
Thanks again everyone
I have jess booked in to see the vet for an ultra sound to see whats going on, She has been digging her bed and has taken to sleeping under my computer desk i have no idea why.
She is eating well and seems happy in herself.
Do you think my mum could have got dates wrong since after first scan vet asked if she was sure the date of mating as pups looked small, Jess was still in heat 1 1/2 weeks after mating so could it be she didnt concieve till a later date.
Her mammary glands are still enlarging slowly but no milk is coming out, She has no discharge from her vulva even though i probably wouldnt see that anyway since she is a very clean dog.
Oh i am just clutching at straws here

Will let you all know how she is after her scan this afternoon
Just an update, Had scan done and its sad news she has aborted the litter and she has passed them and ate them without me knowing. He used 2 different probes to get 2 different depths and said that she is definatley no longer pregnant..
He did say she in perfect health otherwise, no reason not to try again but decided not to...
So sorry charmedagain I must have cross posted and could kick myself

so sad to hear your bad news.
Hi sorry I have no advice for you bit I am keeping my fingers crossed for you and your bitch and that you will soon have some beautiful bundles of joy
I really feel for Jess, She would have been due anytime from saturday, All lastnight and this morning she has been digging at her blankets, Just to think she will probably go through the labour to have nothing for it at the end.
I am hoping vet missed a pup due to the fact her bladder was so full and he did not ask me to take her out to empty it he was not a very good vet in my opinion as i had to ask him to check to make sure she had not temp. I usually see a female vet but she was at there other surgery, I know its doubtfull that there is even one in there..
Life can be so cruel sometimes..
Sorry just had to rant a little
Forgot to add her mammary glands are triple the size they were when she went to the vets the other day.
I have told my mum she will have to take her to see her own vet to get something to dry up her milk as they are getting bigger by the day..
What are the chances or missing a pup since she had a real full bladder when he scanned.
THanks

If he wasn't very good at scanning he could ahve missed pups. I would not do anything about the milk etc until well past the due date just in case.
Thanks brainless, I was just abit stumped at the fact i always thought a bitch was supposed to have an empty bladder when they have a scan, I didnt even know she had a drink until i got home and the other half said she had a drink before i left the house.
Well i will get my mum to keep a very close eye on her just incase..
Again thanks
