Hi everyone, Well my mums dog was confirmed pregnant by a scan, Vet syas 4-5 whelps her date of mating was the 24th january, Vet asked if she was sure and that is the only mating she had, the vet said its just the pups look small.

Anyway i asked a question on here about her not eating, Well i got that problem sorted now the problem is that her stomach is now soft, No movement from any pups cant feel anything in her stomach..

So if dates are correct there should be some movement also her stomach would not be soft.
What is the chance that she has aborted the litter or miscarried.
SHe has no discharge, Is well in herself she seeing the vet on monday i just wondered what you think..

THanks

In 2004 one of my girls litter died in the womb at 5 weeks, she didn't start aborting till 7 weeks 1 day, she had no discharge (until the day she aborted) and other than her tummy feeling soft and looking smaller there was no changes in her behaviour etc.

Being 8 weeks+ movement can normally be felt quite easily, is she a big breed and is 4-5 pups a large litter for that breed?

One of my cocker spaniels had a litter of 3 pups and I could feel movement from all 3 from day 46 onwards.

Well, March the 28th should be her due date.  The pups may be proceeding to the birthing canal and their movement does slow down and stop ready for whelping. They are also great at hiding, so unless you are really experienced it is easy to miss pups. Don't think the worst yet, take her for a scan and let the vet have a good feel around on Monday, that is if she has not already started to have her pups.  If you see any kind of discoloured discharge in the meantime report that to your vet immediately.  Is she showing any signs of whelping at all, panting, crying, temp changes, digging, she may be coming early.

I hope that everything is ok, your mum's vet needs to give her the once over to be sure the pups are ok.

She is a ***** There is no change in her behaviour, She digs her blankets once on a night then lays down and goes to sleep.
She is constantly cleaning her teats and vulva but then she has always kept herself clean.
There is no milk coming from her teats, She seems to be broader around the rib area but still has a slim waistline.
She still wants to play and wants her cuddles..

My german shepherd when she had a litter you could see her pups moving around and could actually feel them at around7-8weeks this is why now i am starting to think she may have lost the litter.

Thanks for all the advice and help

Where about in the country are you?

I only ask as there are a few good scanners who you could take her too,I often find the vets arent as good
at scanning as the people that will either come out to you or you go to them.

Could she be so fat that there isnt much room for movement,I to tend to find pups slow down
movement towards the latter part of the pregnancy, and there are rotts too.

I will keep my fingers crossed that all goes well and that this time next week you are looking at a whelping
box full of black and tan heavenleness

I live in county durham, She is not fat she is actually quite slim apart from her rib area which is broad.
When she sits down and you feel her stomach its hard just when she is lay on her side thats when it goes soft.

How much is it to use one of the people that come out and scan as i have only ever had it done at the vets surgery.

Thanks again you have all been great.. I have a icture of what should looks like but i do not know if it would be allowed to put up the link to it

I assume from your posts that this is her first litter?

I've no experience of the breed whatsoever, but I had a girl (different breed) who didn't show any signs at all of being in whelp until a day or two before she actually whelped.  She was a very athletic looking girl (my breed is in my profile!) and there was no change in her at all, no weight gain - absolutely nothing and then all of a sudden she ballooned within a few days.  She certainly hid them well.

I asked my friend earlier, and she said her bitches have hidden their first litters very well too, again, up to 5 - 7 days before whelping.

Best of luck
Lisa

This is her first litter, She has lots of energy i am thinking thats why she has stayed in shape.
I just thought there should be some movement, She is still eating drinking has no discharge and is acting as normal.
I have taken her temp and that is normal too, She keeps herself very clean always washing her vulva and mammarys, Well i will see what tomorrow brings hopefully she is still in whelp.
As said when vet did scan she only saw 4-5 whelps so maybe she is keeping them well hidden high up still.

Thanks again everyone
