A friend has just asked me what I thought might be wrong with her Male Staffie, He is about 11 months old and has a little discharge coming from his penis she says its a yellow/green colour.
I suggested it might be an infection and to take him to the vets but if anyone else can give me some advice to pass on I would be truly grateful!!

It sounds like the perfectly normal male secretion to me. If it's excessive or if she's worried then a vet's visit might be called for. :)

it nomal,my male dogs have had it.i didnt go to the vet just wash the area with warm salt water for a couple of day.

As long as the discharge is not smelly, a small amount is fine.  Keep a check on it and if it changes then pop to the vets, but its perfectly normal to have some.

Thank you all, I have passed the advice on to my friend.  She says it is not smelly so will use warm salt water on it for a couple of days and see how it goes!

Yes it's normal - affectionately known as "willy end" in my house :D My Dobe sits on laps with his 2 front feet still on the floor which means said body part ends up resting on your thigh, leaving a nice big splodge behind when he walks away Don't get many people coming to visit :D

Totally normal. One of my dogs always had the funny coloured discharge it never bothered him and I never cleaned it he lived a long and happy life.

Neither of my dogs now have it, 1 cleans himself quite regularly and the other stretches on his stomach, clambers onto laps and never cleans himself but has a spotlessly clean willy. Probably because its constantly wiped on laps, furniture and carpets it doesn't have time to build up.

The stretching over things doesn't leave anything that can be seen, felt or smelt behind but I know that there must be a tiny residue that is probably all over the house. :-D

Boys don't have seasons :D :D And what's a little w*lly smeg between friends? ;) It does seem to be some more than others though - my GSP often has a small amount of discharge - never seen any from my flat coat!

It has a section on ailments:

Balanitis
This is an infection of the sheath of the penis which is quite common, especially in young dogs, and can be considered as more unpleasant than serious.  There is usually a copious thick yellow discharge and the dog will tend to lick and clean himself a great deal.  Swabbing with a weak solution of Hydrogen Peroxide will often help, but in a persistent case consult your veterinary surgeon.

The important word there is 'copious'. A small amount of discharge is normal. :)
