Topic Other Boards / Foo / What type of sink?

We have just taken out a resin sink that was about 3 years old. It had become really scratched and shabby. I bought a brand new ceramic one off Ebay and CAN YOU BELIEVE, it broke while OH was putting it in. Now I have no sink but am not sure what to go for. The insurance will cover it but as it broke so easily I am not sure I could trust another. I hate stainless as it marks so easily . We went to a kitchen showroom and saw some granite ones but am unsure as to the durability etc of this type of sink. Especially with big dogs always jumping up. Would appreciate any feedback on which sink you all think best
Thanks

Mine is made from granite and something else. It is brilliant, I love it. http://www.schock.de/index2.php

Does it scratch or mark though?

I have had it over 2 years and not a mark on it.  I have the charcoal coloured one, complete with removable chopping board.

That looks gorgeous :)  Was it an arm and a leg or not too bad in comparision say with a good quality stainless steel sink?

It was more then a good stainless steel sink, but I have to say it makes the kitchen.  I economised elsewhere to have it ;)  The saving on it also came from it fitting into a rough cut hole, I didn't need the edges finished like with an undermounted sink.

I have never had a sink chip ever.  A decent quality one fitted properly , no problem.  I know it is personal taste but I can't stand stainless steel sinks or the plastic type..    I have had the befast type and a few other lay outs but I have a simple on now with nice shiney chrone taps. I tried to find my taps but couldn't see them on line . Here is a similar sink though.

It is like this http://www.sinks.co.uk/shop.php?cat=1&sub=&page=1&ord=cardinality&view=17090&referer=

I swear I don't know why but whenever someone comes in my kitchen they always say I love your sink.. I am talking 10 year span.  I think it is because it is always has that spotless shiny clean look.

I like the belfast type too but would have to put in a new base unit. It looks like I will just go for another ceramic although I do also like the granite ones quite a lot

I have a stainless steel undermounted in a granite worktop.  The hole that was cut out was chipped when they fitted it - only we didn't spot it until the filling came out some months later.  The granite edge has chipped from saucepans and I hate how the mess collects under the rim - the filler goes so messy.   Granite is very unforgiving too - if you drop something it is more likely to break.  On the other hand I have heard of someone chipping their Belfast sink too - you can get repair kits for them.

I also have a granit sink, I love it, I must admit I was  a little unsure when I bought it,  but it very hard wearing,   if you get any marks they just rub off,   go for it , you will love it.

Just a thought, but have you tried a salvation yard? we got our belfast from one, a very reasonable price and in excellent condition? They usually have lots of choice for good prices
