I would like to ask a few questions about the french bulldog>

Are they good off the lead and would they be a suitable breed to go to work everyday with a builder?

They are pretty laid back and kind of lazy. Dont think they would be any good at the building though. I dont think it would object to watching you doing the work though

unless of course it fell down a hole and was never seen again-they do suffer terrible in the heat, --i dont think theyd be ok on a building site-better off on a cushion at home, :)

I know quite a few French Bulldogs, and as the others have said, laid back to the point of laziness, but extremely susceptible to overheating, and cant put up with too much exertion. Not the sort of dog you could happily leave sitting in your van with the doors open (because you wouldnt consider leaving a dog in a closed van, would you?) becasue even then they could be overcome with the heat. They also dont suffer being chilly well. The ones I know all have wooly jumpers for the winter. They also seem to suffer from self imposed selective deafness:) and are not all that reliable at 'off lead' recalls. Other than that, a wonderful breed, great companions, ideal sofa dogs!

I think as an all day companion dog the staffy is one of the best. If not then a bull terrier. The bull&terrier breeds are really good at being with you all day. I take mine everywhere, work/visiting/pub/holiday etc. They are also great car or van travellers, they love it.

Face it Mick, you're only slightly biased towards Sbts and BTs for practically every occasion ;) :D :D :D A French Bulldog is a bit smaller though... perhaps the so-called "Minature" BT might fit the bill better? :)

To me, they're not that "minature" since the standard is 24-33lbs :rolleyes: The top end is equal to my two 'girls' combined :) :)
They've been around for a bit, since they originated and were "common" during the 1800s. So they're not a "new" fad :rolleyes:

The other reason I dont recomend other breeds is that my knowledge of other breeds is lmited to what they look like. This is because Ive only ever had bull terriers since I was 6. I have rescued a couple of dogs and rehomed them, an old english sheepdog and a GSD, And a couple of mongrel crosses etc so Im no expert and dont want to advise on something I dont know about.
