At Rightmove - and, in the area that we want to move to, a plot of land, 32ft (widening to 42ft x 152ft , with full planning permission has just come onto the market - it's south facing, probably with estuary views ....and its £150,000!
(we are talking Essex prices here, I'm afraid!)   All services are definitely in the road, if not already on site.

I'm going to phone the agent tomorrow and get details - and also look at the possibility of remortgaging here, in order to get the dosh to pay for it...........but what's the betting that it will have gone to a builder by the time I pick up the phone !

Noo, we haven't moved yet......still here ..........Golf Club are still havering about whether they can/can't afford to buy us out - and if they don't we're waiting for the road to dry out a bit, so that prospective buyers aren't put off by the lane!!!!  It's out at ...... nooo - if I tell you, you'll be snapping it up ;) - oh alright then - it's at West Mersea!!!
- By Nu77y [gb] Date 14.03.07 22:32 UTC
Ahhh your ok then, thats to far out for me to travel to work...i know exactly what you mean regarding the lanes, im just round the corner at condovers and its a nightmare especially when the tractors have been around. Then again it has its good points, stops all the unwanted visitors that dont want to get muddy :-)
- By calmstorm Date 15.03.07 02:36 UTC
Wheres West Mersea?
- By ChristineW Date 15.03.07 08:20 UTC
Better not depress you and show you what £150,000 could buy you in Bonnie Scotland!!!!  ;)
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 15.03.07 08:47 UTC
I know Christine ....part of me would like to return to my roots, but as my family is - more or less - based in the SE - and with Sarah & Jon both overseas, we want to stay within 1-1.5 hours of Heathrow/Stanstead :(

So we have to pay the price :(

Also, having become, through years of soft living, become a "nesh" suvverner, don't know whether I can cope with 3-cardigan country weather :D
- By shadbolts [gb] Date 15.03.07 09:06 UTC
Good luck with it - if you get it I'll look forward to seeing you on  the next series of Grand Design :)
- By Daisy [gb] Date 15.03.07 09:10 UTC
Good luck, Margot :) :) Although I also wish you lots of luck with the design/building stage  We've just lost our builder due to our architect taking ages  to come up with some plans :( OH had a showdown with him last week and he promised to have the plans to us last Monday - we are still waiting :( :(

A key to the door builder is always a thought for the inexperienced. :-)
- By Daisy [gb] Date 15.03.07 10:21 UTC
What - I don't understand ??? :) :)

Daisy

You hire a building firm ( a good one) to give you a full key to the door service, they will sort your planning, builing applications, build the house , and design if you want , you can take their houses and change the designs. Not as expensive as people think. I haev used this method 2 times with my 1st 2 house builds by the 3rd & 4th  house build I had married someone in the trade :-))))))  now live in a house someone else built :-)

I am only 25 mins froM Edinburgh and it is a nightmare now to get decent plots. My last one was a postage stamp at £100K and that was 6 years ago. So it would be double that now.
- By Daisy [gb] Date 15.03.07 17:56 UTC
We aren't building a new house - we are renovating a 170 year old one :) Unfortunately, good builders in the area are booked up at least 6-8 months in advance, so, as our architect has been so slow, we have lost the slot with our chosen builder :( Changing architect isn't so easy, so we have persevered with this one - but he may be at the end of his noose :D :D

My post was to Margot :-D :-D if she decided to take it on the plot :-)

BUT I know exactly what you mean with builders and problems. We have spend 4 years doing this house up. I could have built 8 in that time :-)))

They have got a very good international airport in Glasgow Margot :).  I think we may drift back to the West Coast at some stage or other.
- By ChristineW Date 15.03.07 11:16 UTC
Hen,

I've been here too many years too (Being a soft Southerner by birth until 17) and I still cannot cope with harsh Scottish winters but we don't seem to have them anymore, you've had more snow the past few years than we have!
- By Blue Date 15.03.07 14:43 UTC
It is funny how people think Scotland is so Cold. I think it is a generalisation. It is like the distance people think it is miles away. I am 20 -25 mins from Edinburgh, on the east coast which has been warmer than most places down south this year, and it takes me no time at all to hit the borders.

Ooh thats where I have my caravan - I love West Mersea - we have been going there for 9 years - every weekend every school holiday,  Is it actually in East or West Mersea.... I was looking at a bit of land on East Mersea on the net but couldnt actually get the details for the owner.  Dont worry I'm no competition for it though - we're hopefully off to the Highlands!!

Well, I've been in touch with the agents - and they're sending me full details .....and yes, they've sent full details out to lots and lots and lots of people:rolleyes:

But heigh-ho - if it's meant to be mine......it will be :D

And the trouble with moving back to sconny botland (as we used to call it as teenagers) is the fact that I'd be leaving all my family down here :(

Margot
- By munrogirl76 Date 15.03.07 14:51 UTC
So take your family with you :D  That's the problem I'm having - I'd love to move back to Scotland - but family such as it is are all in the Midlands, which is why I'm here.  I do sometimes wonder if I could persuade them back North though.... :)
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 15.03.07 15:08 UTC
But when I say "family" that's exactly what I mean ......big bro with his family - which includes 2 married sons with careers & children in the south, lil sis (2) & (3) with their married sons, daughters & children - not to mention my 2 remaining sons living in the UK with their wives, careers & kids in school & college .........more like the Lost Tribe of the Israelites (on a rough count-up, around 60+ close family members:eek::eek::eek:)
- By ChristineW Date 15.03.07 15:26 UTC
Thing is Scotland isn't a million miles away...be thankful you don't have family in Australia like I do (My dad!) then you'd be able to complain!  ;)
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 15.03.07 15:27 UTC
No, not Australia .....just US of A now! (although no 1 g/son was born in Singapore, then no 1 g/daughter born in Tokyo!) And others in the Isle of Man :D
- By MW184 [gb] Date 15.03.07 15:27 UTC
I've just looked where it is and it is about 5 minutes walk from my caravan - so if you get it feel free to pop in for cups of tea - or wine and bbq which is the norm!

> around 60+

All right, you might have a job taking the whole clan :) Do they not fancy moving back up to Scotland though?
- By Isabel Date 15.03.07 15:44 UTC
Better than England for health care in your dotage ;) they are even paying their nurses better :)  If you can drag the family up there the schooling seems superior in a lot of instances.  Downside is I really don't like their property purchasing ways but then the English one looks set to become rather more problematic.

Margot

spotted an ad in the gazette...

2 plots of land for sale, approx 138" x 30" previously had plans passed for 2 four bed detached houses offers in excess of £150,000...bit nearer than West Mersea though, Stanford-le-hope.
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 15.03.07 22:33 UTC
Thanks - I know about those ....but don't want that particular area ......know too much about it!!

Noo - Adrian was working, tide was wrong - ..........what does it look like?  Im still waiting for the paperwork to come through so I've only seen the website pictures........

Margot
- By MW184 [gb] Date 18.03.07 21:27 UTC
well its quite near to the pub The Fox - looks like its back off the road maybe accessed between a couple of houses or something - the signs were on the road but you couldn't see the whole plot from the road.   Its quite a nice spot - you can walk to the beach in about 10 minutes strolling/normal pace.  Could walk to the shops if you needed to - and its not right in the middle where all the shops and crammed houses are - think you would probably have some nice views from there.

If you have people in your huge family that build you would be absolutely laughing I'm sure....

Maxine
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 18.03.07 21:55 UTC
Tht's where I thought it was!  Fox is a nice pub - and at the end of Seaview Ave is the papershop/cafe etc - not a bad spot if its right off the road .....just depends on how many developers are after it!   But I do know that 1 developer has 2 houses unsold in that area (he is asking £360,000 for each of them though!)

I'll just wait til I saee the papers........;)
