Well everyone always seems to have a good win to tell everyone about except me :-(

Sooooooooooo I thought I would let you all know that at a local open show on Saturday we got 1st in Graduate and BOB :-) I only beat 2 other dogs, one of which was only 7/8 mths old but still I beat them. :D The judge has the same breed as me and it was her first appointment, she was very nice and said my dog was looking really well and she would be watching me in the group. Yikes!!

Anyway we got chucked out of the group but a couple of people said that one of the reasons (apart from the judge prefering the other dogs) could have been that the judge had the same breed as me and therefore might not want to be seen as placing me :-( I have heard of this before, has anyone else ?

edited to say that the group judge was a different lady to the one who gave me BOB

Well done Claire :D:D:D

What breed do you have.

At a recent Open Show I attended I took Best Puppy in Show with my 11 month old Cocker Spaniel Pup, the Judge has American Cockers so I don't know if this answers your question.

I have never heard of it before but I live in Guernsey and it might be different over here to the UK.

Well done again

Thanks :-)

I have weimaraners. Apparently she gives tickets in them. One thing that did bug me a little was when she asked his age and I said 19mths she said "oooh just a baby". I've had this a couple of times before just because my boy still has some maturing to do but sometimes I really feel like saying - Look yes he's a youngster but no he's not a baby. There are dogs younger than mine who have won tickets and I was only in for the group so being only 19mths shouldn't come into it. I'm sure I'm taking that comment the wrong way though  :D

I actually think I didn't get placed because if she has the breed then of course there will be certain things she likes and dislikes, I know I am like that. But I'm not bothered, I just wondered :-)

Your welcome

I had the same problem with a few judges a while back with my other dog, when they new he was only 18 months or so they didn't give him BOB, but under this Judge the other weekend he took Best Cocker Spaniel Dog and he was the youngest, so I dare say it all depends on what they think is right or wrong when it comes to ages. And as you have said CC do get given to young dogs even some Puppies :D:D

Just take it as a lesson and that different judges will like different things, thankfully :)

If you need any further help or info just register and everybody will be more than willing to help you.

I know what you mean, out of the 3 crits that have been published 2 judges have said about my boy " Hope he does not grow anymore" Actually so do I!! :-D Anne

First asking age, don't know about others, but if I think the dog is a little immature then I ask the age and if the age fits the dogs development thats fine and you give it no more thought if the dog is of an age when you would expect it should look mature, then that is something you may wish to consider when comparing with others. You may also ask age if the handler looks tence, just to break the ice.
Now to a judge with your breed, have always thought that because the judge knows, or should know, the breed very well they are probably looking for a higher standard than in a breed they are less familiar with. Doubt they could help themselves. Ja:)kie

oh Claire - what a clever Harris :D
Bet you're "ded chuft"

As to the "not favouring my breed" - who knows ;) Could be true although I hope not! I think someone said about as they are of your breed they look for a little more than a non breed specific person ?
Anyway - great about the BOB :D
