Recently, I have had terrible trouble with Lacey pulling on the lead and I have mentioned it on here before. I tried everything during the summer break (when training classes ceased). I bought a gadget which goes on the lead and whistles when the dog pulls, Lacey just ignored it and carried on pulling. I then bought a Halti and put on her. It worked because as soon as it was put on her she sat down and refused to move at all which stopped the pulling and in fact stopped the walking too. I then gave up and let her pull me all summer.
This week there was a doggie roadshow, which was really well organised and where they were microchipping dogs etc. I took Lacey along because I think that microchipping is good to have done. While there I got talking to a dog trainer who runs classes in the area. I mentioned about the pulling and he showed me what I think is like a check chain collar. The collar closes up to the dogs neck size when pulled. He put it on Lacey and showed me how it worked and explained that it is what he advises people to use in class.
I have to say, Lacey didn't seem to mind it at all and the pulling stopped instantly. It seems that the noise of the chain closing is enough to correct the problem. Walking is now pleasurable and not a nightmare. I just wondered what peoples thoughts are on the subject of this sort of collar.
I would never put anything on my puppy that would physically hurt her and this does seem to have done the trick. We will now be attending obedience classes as they have started again.

Debbie,
Is the collar part material with a chain loop? If so it is called a half check.
I have had very good results with this collar and Bailey (Lab) had been wearing one since he was about 15 weeks :) Nearly all the dogs in our obedience class wear them and i have yet to see one that dislikes them.
Tracy :)

Yes the collar is how you describe. :D Lacey is a 5 month old Golden Retriever puppy and she was getting too hard for me to hold, but now it's a completely different story.
