Come on then lets have a friendly little bet before it starts I know we,ve not seen toy or utility group winners yet but I love the Bloodhound with reserve so far to the Alaskan Malamute
- By bertbeagle [gb] Date 11.03.07 18:55 UTC
I'm will you on the Bloodhound, it would be fantastic if she won BIS!

My money's on the bloodhound :)
- By kerrib Date 11.03.07 19:55 UTC
Ooh.  Its not fair!  OH is a Plymouth Arygle supporter so you can guess what we are watching   . Taping Crufts so wont be able to watch it until it finishes!!  From what I have seen so far (and please bear in mind my knowledge of dogs is extremely limited so I can only base my opinion on what I like and not what I know), I thought last nights group winner was a lovely dog (hound) but I fell for the eyes ;) more than the way they ran and the lines etc etc  :D :D

Slowly walks away muttering mustn't come on here again til I've watched it :) :)
- By Soli Date 11.03.07 19:54 UTC
It must be every judges dream to judge a lineup of dogs like that!  I'm torn between four of them but for me it's between the Flatcoat and the Wire Fox Terrier.

I hope Zena enjoys the moment.  It must be hard for her to put Terry to the back of her mind at the moment but I'm sure she'll be the consumate professional.

i must say i too like the fox terrier but feel this year will be willies, hes not come for nothing & since plymouh got beat get ya self watching crufts & tell hubby that your programme is on now !! lol
- By zarah Date 11.03.07 20:34 UTC
I like the Flatcoat as well
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 11.03.07 20:47 UTC
Have just watched the Judge going over the Mal ...then the Beardie ...the Mal was a much quicker going over compared to the Beardie IMO

Oh and the flatcoat retrievers handlers legs are of interest to my husband ...she is showing enough of them LOL
- By Carla Date 11.03.07 20:49 UTC
its the bizarre way she runs with them that fascinated me - like she's pedalling a bike :D
- By kazz Date 11.03.07 20:52 UTC
Bloodhound for me :)
- By sandra762 Date 11.03.07 20:53 UTC
Me too! also the TT :)
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 11.03.07 20:55 UTC
Disappointing results IMO
- By luvhandles Date 11.03.07 20:57 UTC
think those 'clodhoppers' on her feet might have something to do with it
- By zarah Date 11.03.07 20:53 UTC
Think it might be the Beardie now actually :D
- By spaniel mad [gb] Date 11.03.07 20:55 UTC Edited 11.03.07 20:57 UTC
YEAHHHHHHHH FAB FAB WILLY DOES IT SAID HE WAS NOT HERE FOR NOTHING & WAS RIGHT
               GO WILLY GOOOOOOOO
- By Nu77y [gb] Date 11.03.07 20:56 UTC
I wanted Bertha to win it boo hoo
- By pavlova [gb] Date 11.03.07 21:05 UTC
dissapointed with the result my favourite was still the Bloodhound rather liked the Beardie as well.
Zena looked amazing as well and so very professional.
- By ClaireyS Date 11.03.07 21:11 UTC
She was very swift in her decision wasnt she, he must have really stood out for her.

I personally liked the flatcoat, thought he was a fab mover (shame his handler had such a long split in the front AND back of her skirt  )
- By Lea Date 11.03.07 21:14 UTC
lol, but if she hadnt she wouldnt have been able to STRIDE like that!!!!LOL
Lea :)
- By Dawn-R Date 11.03.07 21:13 UTC
Well I was hoping for Willy to win, so I'm happy, but I wanted the Maltese for RBIS. I really didn't think the Wire Fox Terrier was sparkling tonight.

- By spaniel mad [gb] Date 11.03.07 21:48 UTC Edited 11.03.07 21:51 UTC
I HAVE TO AGREE WITH DAWN ABOUT THE FOX TERRIER, LOST ALL THE SPARKLE & DID NOT WANT TO MOVE LIKE IT CAN & I WAS ACTUALLY SUPRISED TO SEE IT GO RESERVE BEST IN SHOW
& sorry for the caps, relised after i did posts & could not be bothered to re-write
- By ChristineW Date 11.03.07 21:14 UTC
Forgone conclusion I thought.    Have to say Willy did put up the best performance in the lineup IMO, the Bloodhound was just a little bit too 'eau naturale' in her handling & handler compared to those who were very 'sharp'.   Flatcoat did very little for me, thought he over reached behind.

I liked the Beardie, very sound, pleasing for type bitch.   Terrier, I felt was pulling to the side on her away & back - maybe why she had to do it again?
- By sandrah Date 11.03.07 21:35 UTC
Thought the Beardie needed a good brush

Pleased Willie won, also liked the Maltese.  Both had that little bit extra which is needed at that stage.
- By STARRYEYES Date 11.03.07 21:52 UTC
I think the beardie looked beautiful (I suppose I am biast) they are not a breed that looks glamourous like the malt or TT  the coat is harsh.
I think she had already made her mind up as she didnt go over the TT like she did the others and the fox was pulling to the left .....and those legs cant say I even looked at the flatcoat as i was watching that very strange run :)
- By LucyD [gb] Date 11.03.07 22:02 UTC
I liked Willy, also the Maltese. My OH liked Willy and the Beardie. Didn't like the handling of the fox terrier though the dog was lovely - terrier people often fuss around a lot don't they! (ducks before the Champdogs terrier people throw something!)
- By Polly [gb] Date 12.03.07 09:23 UTC
Watched the flatcoat judging the best bitch Downstream Revisited to Tacumshin was heaps better than the dog winner. The two breed judges could not agree so the referee was called and he was also the group judge, so he picked the dog, which he then gave the group to. He also has an Almanza dog so I suppose he likes that flashy type.
- By Gemini05 Date 11.03.07 22:44 UTC
I am not a judge and probably will upset others but..........

I did like the Flat coat, thought he looked stunning, so to the Fox terrier although was pulling over a little, and I liked the Bloodhound and had hoped she had gone on to be BIS or RBIS.

There has not been many Large breed dogs go through to BIS or RBIS for a while now, seems favs are on Smaller breeds??
Go on I know people wont agree with me but we are all intitled to our own opinions
Glad at least one of my choices had gone through!!

My OH was liking the Malu (working group) but the dog seemed to be somewhere else other then the show ring! (he was nice though)
:cool::confused:
- By bowers Date 11.03.07 22:51 UTC
I thought Willy deserved to win, the mal seemed to have its front legs almost touching each other when it stood himself up , i dont know what the standard asks for but he had very little width to his forechest ?
- By ClaireyS Date 11.03.07 23:09 UTC
the fox terrier did really lean to the side when moving, I dont know how she managed to assess his front movement.  I too thought the beardie looked a little tatty - but then what do I know
- By Dill [gb] Date 11.03.07 23:26 UTC
Thought the Wire Fox Terrier was lovely but she wasn't sparkling like she normally does, Willy is just gorgeous but what was on his coat??  It looked far too flat esp on the head which also looked a llittle too 'tidy' - american trimming perhaps??
- By ClaireyS Date 11.03.07 23:46 UTC
he had a very neat little bob didnt he :)
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 12.03.07 07:17 UTC
I thought the same about the Malamute's chest width. Be interested to know whether this is usual?

I wanted Willy for BIS, but like many others I didn't think the Wire Fox Terrier put in the performance on the night. I'd have had the Beardie RBIS, I think.

I suppose the big problem with large breeds is they mature later, especially with our breeds and the likes of boxers, dobes they cant hide a multitude of sins behind a long coat as others can which is a shame as i saw some lovely movers in the working group that deserved to be in the line up , i dont think large breeds do very well after a long day especially in that enviroment to then produce something sparking for the group  :D  (opps was in response to gemini went awol again!)
- By daxilady [gb] Date 12.03.07 07:42 UTC
thought willy looked stunning and moved brilliantly, thought the maltese would have got reserve as it powered round the ring for a small one, also thought the beardie could have done with a brush, and fox terrier moved awful, how did she manage to look at its front movement!!.
- By Polly [gb] Date 12.03.07 09:27 UTC
I thought the Maltese was stunning too, but those clips in it's hair made it look like it had horns! I found that very distracting, and you ended up focussing on that rather than the lovely flowing movement.

I was surprised that the bloodhound winner did not have a nice trouser suit. My friend, (non doggy), commented "OH look that handler has her work togs on still!"

I liked the Fox Terrier, the Maltese, the bloodhound and the Malmute. I would have preferred to see the Fox Terrier move better, he was leaning on his collar and pulling to the side.
- By michelled [gb] Date 12.03.07 10:43 UTC
o was thrilled that Willy won he looked amazing, i thought the bllodhound was cracking too, thought he had a VERY good vibe anout him, i thought him or the stunning maltese for the reserve & was horrifed when the wire got it, thought it showed like a sack of spuds
- By ice_queen Date 12.03.07 10:49 UTC
Willy looked stunning.

As everyone has said the WHFT did nothing in the ring as a show dog and teh front looked awful all the way round when the camera's were on.

The bloodhound looked good but did nothing for me.

I loved the mal in the group but didn't look good in BIS (I think it was the handlers dress that did it)

Liked the flatcoat but more for a 4th/5th place if placing them all.

Loved the beardie wanted that RBIS behind willy but with the maltease fighting close behind :)

At least it was a UK dog 1 and two....after the first two groups I was worried maybe the UK dogs didn't have the quality!
- By lfc4eva [gb] Date 12.03.07 11:41 UTC
I was made up Willy won, im shouting to Keeper to come and see his grandad on telly, but for some reason he couldnt be bothered....lol

well i fell in love with the bloodhound on the saturday, loved his attachude, and thought both him and his owner were having a wail of a time which sums it all up for me, who else went all the way home the night before bis?. So i thought i should have been bloodhound bis and tt willy for rbis, but then i am not over sucsessful in the ring so what do i know?
- By yrlance Date 12.03.07 18:23 UTC
I was at the show, and it was fab....
I liked the Beardie and the TT, but saying that the little Maltese was great and had a long day aswell.
They look so different in the flesh and the TV does nothing for them.
I am not into Terriers, prob get shot down for that, but just my personal thought.
They were all fab and i shall definatly go again, had a great day shopping and to see the end was just so moving.
Must be done at least once.
The Blood hound was so natural he just took it all in his stride a lovely dog.
The Mali looked tired to me not the same spark as Fri, didn't do it for me.

Have to say I narrowed my selection down to Willy, mal and the bloodhound.  But Willy was my final choice - he was not only a great dog but loved every moment - he almost seemed to be laughing with joy when he came out.  I agree the Fox lost his sparkle last night - such a shame.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 13.03.07 09:37 UTC
Don't you think though that those spotlights must affect some dogs negatively, as lets face it it isn't what any of them are used to.

Also the lights can be so hot and double coated breeds can really suffer.

I suspect that poor Malamute spent several days in a crate in a hotel room, which would not be usual, even if he travels to a lot of shows.
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 13.03.07 10:05 UTC
If you go to http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/item/995 you can vote for your virtual best in show!

I do agree with Barbara, about the spotlights, the trumpet fanfare and the crowds affecting the dogs - after all, although we familiarise them with so many things, how many of us use spotlights, applause and trumpets as part of the training regime?

Or, if we have a puppy that we have decided is an absolute stunner - maybe we should :D :D

Just had a look and the Beardie is winning by a mile !!!
- By Lindsay Date 13.03.07 17:43 UTC
Some people watching the mal handler were not very happy with the treatment it was receiving - apparently it got kneed twice in the ribs quite hard. Makes me mad

This is from someone who was very close up and some of the audience around were muttering about the dog's treatment too.

Not good in this day and age.
