Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Training / Agility classes for puppy

Hello,

My partner and i have a 9 month old Norwegian Buhund. When she was about 3/4 months we took her to socialisation classes but now she is a bit older we'd like to start taking her to agility / training classes.

Does anyone know any websites where i can find classes in my local area (Kent)?

I've tried puppy school but they have no tutors in Kent!

Thanks

With regard to agility training you could try www.agilityeye.co.uk or www.agilitynet.co.uk but most clubs won't take dogs under 12 months old. You could also try the Kennel Club, www.thekennelclub.org.uk, for KC registered training clubs, both agility or obedience. Good luck.

Thank you for those websites. I'll have a look at them later on.

Maybe weshould wait until she is older than 12 months though.

I would concentrate on Obedience classes in the meantime as to start agility you do need a good level of basic obedience.

Some will take younger dogs, but they shouldn't do jumps until the bones are fully calcified, and I would say that I would want them hip scored before embarking on agility to know how good the hips are to tailor training and work accordingly.

Do you know Debbie Deuchar who does agility with her Mum's Elkhounds and Buhunds, they are not in Kent, but are in the south.

Ok i think we will start with obedience and then do agility maybe later in the year.

I don't know Debbie no - what part of the South is she in?

They live in  Middlesex.

I would look for an agility club now as most only take on beginners maybe once or twice a year and will have waiting lists. I looked about for over a year before getting into a club. Some clubs accept young pups - my youngster started at 4 months - just learning the basics like running through wings and left and right turns etc.

Which part of Kent do you live in? We live in East Kent and attend training classes locally.

I live in the Medway Towns.

Thanks for the other link but that's in Farningham which is quite a way from where we are!

There must be somewhere local to me lol!!!

Try www.louandi.com and click on where it says "The agility section" on the left hand side.
