Topic Dog Boards / General / A GMTV Poll
- By Dawn-R Date 09.03.07 10:56 UTC
The results of a poll conducted by GMTV earlier this week have revealed that 78% of responents voted in disagreement with the proposed ban on tail docking. The remaining 22% agreed with the proposed ban.

Well I would suspect that is not what they expected is it!?

Sadly I doubt that it will make a difference?

I find that result quite surprising, really. I would have thought the general public would either be not bothered or be anti-docking.
I wonder if the 78% thought they were voting against docking, rather than against the ban........
- By Dawn-R Date 09.03.07 11:16 UTC
Well the question was simple enough.

''Do you agree with the proposed docking ban''

I must admit I would have thought there would have been more against docking than for it.

I think all these votes are suspect because it is normally only the people who feel very strongly about something and are having the choice taken away from them who will bother to vote.
- By Dawn-R Date 09.03.07 13:16 UTC
Yes, so doesn't that then follow that the general public are not bothered one way or the other whether a breed is traditionally docked or not, and that they wouldn't know or care whether docking was banned or not. The only people that will be happy with a ban will be the ones it doesn't concern, the ones that don't dock anyway.

The general public don't care and breeders of traditionally docked breeds care, but are being railroaded by the busybodies.

Well, I think who actually votes depends on how much the votes actually costs on the phone bill. I would expect there would be quite a few pro-dockers making sure their vote counted. Not everyone is around to know about the vote, if you don't watch morning Tv or are out at work for example. Then there are those that can't be bothered to vote, which we see at every election. I wouldn't really give much stance on anything this type of voting system produced, and certainly wouldn't expect it to give any indication of the general publics feelings towards what ever subject is being voted for.

I voted online so didn't phone in?

And my breed is NOT docked.

I have just read on another forum the stupidest reason yet for not docking. If dogs are not docked then there will be less in rescues. Reason because they can wag their tails and people will choose them. Someone else comparing docking to pulling your own finger nails out. I get so mad at these folk they have no idea what they are talking about and going along with all the hype. I didnt respond, better not to as I would only get chucked of the forum aaaarrgggggggghhhhhhhh

Fair enough, what I'm getting at is that there are not enough people around to give a fair vote, and of course not everyone is bothered about dogs and have no knowledge of what docking is all about. Thats why I don't think these votes give a fair example of what peoples views are.

Wendy....If you put a clear post up about docking, why should that get you kicked off a forum? It sounds a bit of a 'one sided' forum if all views are not allowed to be aired. :)

LOl it is a very one sided forum. They are so against everything that isnt rescue. No one should breed ect. I once said I actually liked my JR with a docked tail. You would of thought i said I had personally ripped it of with my teeth I was called all the names under the sun. I dont post on it very much but I do nip in every now and then as they do a great job on the rescue front

Ah....I seeeeee ;) :D

This vote was skewed as it was actually 78% that wanted to retain docking...
But GMTV said the opposite:rolleyes::eek:, a lady in Boxers that started up the petition for tail banding
brought it to our attention and she said that they had reported the opposite of the actual result
Erm talk about trying to get things to suit the answer you want
