Not sure if this should come under thwe health section Any way, My Charlie pup has just had her first season and she now has pinkish pigment onher nose where it has always been jet black. She is 13 moths old) I ahve heard that kelp is good for this condition. Any comments?

I've also read somewhere that kelp is good for pigmentation, but not sure where I read it ?

Our breeder said that kelp's good for this, but, to be honest, we've not bothered as it doesn't matter to us what colour her nose is so long as it's not doing her any harm.

Our GR had a beautiful black nose up until this winter and now it has gone brown - any idea if it will go back to black or is it likely to stay the same colour now. He is coming up to 18 months old :)

Hi Harley

Roxy's nose changes to a very cute pinky / livery colour every winter and some time towards summer it goes back to black, then changes back in winter etc etc etc.  Not ideal if you show your dog I guess.

Hi Harley,

It will go black again, pigmentation can change during the darker months. Seaweed kelp is good and also dried nettles works wonders.

Hi there,

kelp is renowned for helping coat growth and pigmentation.  You can buy it in powdered form to add to the diet or in tablet form - the latter being stronger and more quickly effective :)  Try Here

I've been using kelp to improve my bichons winter haloes around his eyes and there has definately been an improvement :) Just half a teaspoon every other day in his food. Someone also recommended black pudding so he's been having a few slices of that here and there too. Much to his delight! :D

Our Sadie has little pink spots of pigmentation on her nose.

kelp tablets from Dorwest work very well for correcting pigment as long as they have had it and lost it pre- season etc:
You are advised not to use it during the summer months ( I think it can over heat the blood) this is when you change over to the elderberry and nettle I have used this in a liquid form also from dorwest.
I have a fawn bitch who looses her pigment just before her season but it always returns.

Henry's is pink now.  It was black and when I look at photos of him taken ages ago, it looks like a lump of coal stuck on his face!  Its been pink for a while but will turn darker during the summer then repeat itself through the seasons.

you could always use black mascara  :D :D :D :D

One of my cockers lost his nose pigment at about 9 months old and despite plying him with Kelp, it has never returned - he is now 2 years old. I also have his half brother and am hoping th ekelp works with him. I am currently using the powdered form but might try switching to tablets

Being a Norwegian I swear by Kelp and use it in a multitude of ways, from politices to supplements..
However having a breed susceptible to Hypopigmentation, "Snow nose' I know that it doesnt work for all dogs.
Ive heard good things about Vit E (there's a good article in the BMJ)
Vitamin B complexs with choline
and just recently a good friend of mine has had fab results in 2 of her sibes using Dorwest Herbs 'Organic elderberry & nettle extract'
HTH and gives you some more ideas :)
