Topic Dog Boards / Behaviour / Clicker Training In West Lothian/Fife
- By Helen-Jane Date 06.03.07 16:02 UTC
Hi

Here's hoping that there is a CD out there that can help me.  I have done basic clicker work with my dogs, ie a few tricks, following a target stick and I have used it for agility and obedience training.  I am interested in learning a lot more about it but seem to be struggling to find a class that offers clicker training.  I would love to learn more about free shaping and putting together behaviour chains.  I am also interested in Heelwork to Music and I have found a few places of interest that seem to be suitable but none that incorporate clickers into their session.  Am I looking for the impossible or is there a group withing easy travelling distance of Livingston that would be interested in taking on 2 dancing dogs and an owner with 2 left feet?

No help on the club front I'm afraid but did you know that Mary Ray is coming to West Lothian for an evening May 9th?

Yes there is group of us going.  I cannot wait.  One of our lot has seen her before doing this type of evening and has said that she is great.  I noticed your earlier post re agility and I am sure that you train at the same club as me.  Give me a clue?  I have a donkey of a collie and a patterdale terrier, what do you have?

Hello :)  we do go to the same club. My neices (Hannah and Laura) are attempting to handle my two wee collies (Meg and Gem).

Ah  It all makes sense now.  I will not see you this Sunday but should be there next week.

We're not there either this Sunday, off to crufts. The first year I've been only to watch so looking forward to it. Shopping on the Saturday then back on Sunday morning to cheer Vicky and Barney on in the YKC agility :)

Hi
Was it you that contacted Heather with the Beardies about a HTM class??

I'm in Fife and wish I could find a clicker class but as far as I'm aware there are none in Fife :-(

Have you tried http://www.apdt.co.uk/trainers_area.asp?area=Scotland%20-%20Edinburgh The first one does clicker
- By Helen-Jane Date 07.03.07 09:19 UTC
Yes that was me.  I am now hounding anyone I can think of to find something.  I would rather go by word of mouth as I know a couple of trainers that are listed on the apdt website that I would definately not consider going to.  One in particular says that they do clicker but they know a lot less about it than I do and that is saying something.  I hasten to add that the first one on the link you sent is not the person in question.  I did speak to someone very knowledgeble about clicker work last night and she does not know of anyone training.

Well if you do find anything let me know and I'll do likewise.

The Milnathort one was on a Monday and is just up the motorway from the bridge but i dont know how advanced the clicker training is.
