I am fuming! An inexperiemced friend went to a 'training club' last week. I have since learned that she was charged £14 'membership'. I asked the name of the club and it is a mixture of my clubs name and another local C.S. I I thought this wasn't right , so I checked my red book and no they are not registered with KC. I asked advice from KC and the replied if they are not registered we cannot do any thing about it. Now while in a way I see their point but what is the point of registration if the general public do not seem to care and what do we as a registered society gain from being registered? Apart from joining forces with the other CS in the area to protest to this so called club. I really do not know what to do. I would appreciate some advice or thought on this please

What do you have against the un-registered club? the membership price or the fact it's not KC reg?
I object because they are using names which could be associated with my own society. and they are charging £14 when other registered training clubs charge only £2 The other point is what is the woth of registration,if it gives no protection

But how much are their traning classes/sessions?
Re the name, why don't you just ask them however it could cause problems and legally theres nothing you can/could do.
My family runs an un-registerd ringcraft club however we charge no membership as don't believe in it.

I don't really see the problem, I belong to an unregistered agility club and the membership is £25. The training is excellent with one of scotlands top trainers and we have several very succesful handlers - it doesn't bother me that they're not registered. Ironically our trainer is also the area agility council liason and runs the agility section of the SKC.
OK. So, it seems tat you all think I am being unreasonab le. Maybe you are right but I am still 'narked'

Most of my local training clubs are unregistered private clubs run by one person with a number of helpers. They reason they choose not to be registered is they would then have to ahve a committeee and all the hasssle that brings.
People go there and pay for theri training, if they don't like it or the charges levied they don't go. No-one worries what happens to the money, but often they are lucky to get more than the cost of the hall.

I'd actually be annoyed if another Club was using my Club's name or a name similar to it. I would definitely contact the other Club whose name they seem to also be part using!
i HAVE CONTACTED THE OTHER CLUB WHOSE NAME IS INCORPORATED IN THE TRAINING CLUBS NAME. tHE SECRETARY THINKS WE SHOULD WRITE A LETTER AND ASK THEM TO ALTER THEIR NAME. bUT Ii SUPPOSE THERE IS NO 'COPYRIGHT ON NAMES mAYBE WE WILL WRITE A A FRIENDLY LETTER AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. tHANK YOU FOR YOUR IMPUT
what's your club name and what's the name of the unregistered one?

Please don't post the name of either club on the thread ;)
sorry I was more interested to know how similar the names are
for instance (made up names here) - if one was called Birmingham dog club and the other was called the birmingham dog training club then i wouldn't say one copied the other.
If the first was called Shisisus Dog club and the other was called Shisisus dog training club then you may be right in thinking that one had copied the other :)
