I'm just finishing one at Shuttleworth in Biggleswade. Your closest one for the City & Guild course is probably Writtle College (which Shuttleworth is now part of anyway). It's been very useful for the most part, though I think the theory goes into more detail than a groomer would normally need. The practicals have been very good though, and particularly now we are coming to the end, they are doing their best to assign dogs to people who particularly need practice in whatever aspect of grooming that dog needs, eg I've asked for more scissoring, particularly Bichons. :-)

Thanks very much - I'll have a look.
Hopefully OH will get the job in Scotland and I can do a course to be a dog groomer and leave the city of london far behind me............

Out of London sounds nice - can I come too? :-D

hi lucy hows the dog grooming going?

Is it just me who can't wait to get back close to London? :D
Good luck finding a course. Not sure about any essex way, I only know of shuttleworth (beds) which Lucy mentioned.

Well I think I've done my time working in London - and need a real change. Think there was a survey last year of the most boring jobs - Investment Management was in the top 3 and IT was in the top 3 I think - so as I do IT in Investment Management - you can imagine:rolleyes:
So now I want to move - walk my dogs and make jam - and once I've had a bit of a rest do a dog grooming course.....
If OH fails his interview - he's in big trouble

what makes you want to do dog grooming?

Well, I've always enjoyed grooming my own dogs, and taught myself from a video how to do my American cocker. I also have 2 Cavaliers, and whenever I visited my Cavalier breeding friends I really enjoyed brushing them and getting all the knots out. They started saying I was really good and patient and ought to do it for a career, and when I got a new unpleasant boss at my office job, the idea just took off. I had another friend at training who is a groomer and learned at Shuttleworth, and there you have it. :-)

For the first time in my life I am thinking about a job for the enjoyment rather than for the money and I would love to do something with dogs. I know I've only had a dog since last year but I am absolutely fascinated and enjoy myself - it's the first thing that has really got my interest other than reading books!
